[ Upstream commit 3cf2f450fff304be9cf4868bf0df17f253bc5b1c ]
Simplify the check in physdev_mt_check() to emit an error message
only when passed an invalid chain (ie, NF_INET_LOCAL_OUT).
This avoids cluttering up the log with errors against valid rules.
For large/heavily modified rulesets, current behavior can quickly
overwhelm the ring buffer, because this function gets called on
every change, regardless of the rule that was changed.

[ Upstream commit 89a26cd4b501e9511d3cd3d22327fc76a75a38b3 ]
When running a 64-bit kernel with a 32-bit iptables binary, the size of
the xt_nfacct_match_info struct diverges.
kernel: sizeof(struct xt_nfacct_match_info) : 40
iptables: sizeof(struct xt_nfacct_match_info)) : 36
Trying to append nfacct related rules results in an unhelpful message.
Although it is suggested to look for more information in dmesg, nothing
can be found there.
# iptables -A <chain> -m nfacct --nfacct-name <acct-object>
iptables: Invalid argument. Run `dmesg' for more information.
This patch fixes the memory misalignment by enforcing 8-byte alignment
within the struct's first revision. This solution is often used in many
other uapi netfilter headers.

TCP rst and fin packets do not qualify to place a flow into the

closure. Without this patch, this flow entry expires and connection

If a rule that has already a bound anonymous set fails to be added, the
preparation phase releases the rule and the bound set. However, the
transaction object from the abort path still has a reference to the set
object that is stale, leading to a use-after-free when checking for the
set->bound field. Add a new field to the transaction that specifies if
the set is bound, so the abort path can skip releasing it since the rule
command owns it and it takes care of releasing it. After this update,
the set->bound field is removed.

hash:ip,mac sets
[ Upstream commit 1b4a75108d5bc153daf965d334e77e8e94534f96 ]
In commit 8cc4ccf58379 ("ipset: Allow matching on destination MAC address
for mac and ipmac sets"), ipset.git commit 1543514c46a7, I added to the
KADT functions for sets matching on MAC addreses the copy of source or
destination MAC address depending on the configured match.
This was done correctly for hash:mac, but for hash:ip,mac and
bitmap:ip,mac, copying and pasting the same code block presents an
obvious problem: in these two set types, the MAC address is the second
dimension, not the first one, and we are actually selecting the MAC
address depending on whether the first dimension (IP address) specifies
source or destination.
Fix this by checking for the IPSET_DIM_TWO_SRC flag in option flags.
This way, mixing source and destination matches for the two dimensions
of ip,mac set types works as expected. With this setup:
ip netns add A
ip link add veth1 type veth peer name veth2 netns A
ip addr add 192.0.2.1/24 dev veth1
ip -net A addr add 192.0.2.2/24 dev veth2
ip link set veth1 up
ip -net A link set veth2 up
dst=$(ip netns exec A cat /sys/class/net/veth2/address)
ip netns exec A ipset create test_bitmap bitmap:ip,mac range 192.0.0.0/16
ip netns exec A ipset add test_bitmap 192.0.2.1,${dst}
ip netns exec A iptables -A INPUT -m set ! --match-set test_bitmap src,dst -j DROP
ip netns exec A ipset create test_hash hash:ip,mac
ip netns exec A ipset add test_hash 192.0.2.1,${dst}
ip netns exec A iptables -A INPUT -m set ! --match-set test_hash src,dst -j DROP
ipset correctly matches a test packet:
# ping -c1 192.0.2.2 >/dev/null
# echo $?

[ Upstream commit b89d15480d0cacacae1a0fe0b3da01b529f2914f ]
In commit 8cc4ccf58379 ("ipset: Allow matching on destination MAC address

KADT check that prevents matching on destination MAC addresses for
hash:mac sets, but forgot to remove the same check for hash:ip,mac set.
Drop this check: functionality is now commented in man pages and there's
no reason to restrict to source MAC address matching anymore.

commit 656c8e9cc1badbc18eefe6ba01d33ebbcae61b9a upstream.
Change ct id hash calculation to only use invariants.
Currently the ct id hash calculation is based on some fields that can
change in the lifetime on a conntrack entry in some corner cases. The
current hash uses the whole tuple which contains an hlist pointer which
will change when the conntrack is placed on the dying list resulting in
a ct id change.
This patch also removes the reply-side tuple and extension pointer from
the hash calculation so that the ct id will will not change from
initialization until confirmation.

Jakub Jankowski reported following oddity:
After 3 way handshake completes, timeout of new connection is set to
max_retrans (300s) instead of established (5 days).
shortened excerpt from pcap provided:
25.070622 IP (flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 52)
10.8.5.4.1025 > 10.8.1.2.80: Flags [S], seq 11, win 64240, [wscale 8]
26.070462 IP (flags [DF], proto TCP (6), length 48)

10.8.5.4.1025 > 10.8.1.2.80: Flags [.], ack 83, win 512, length 0
Turns out the last_win is of u16 type, but we store the scaled value:
512 << 8 (== 0x20000) becomes 0 window.
The Fixes tag is not correct, as the bug has existed forever, but
without that change all that this causes might cause is to mistake a
window update (to-nonzero-from-zero) for a retransmit.

Thomas and Juliana report a deadlock when running:
(rmmod nf_conntrack_netlink/xfrm_user)
conntrack -e NEW -E &
modprobe -v xfrm_user
They provided following analysis:
conntrack -e NEW -E
netlink_bind()
netlink_lock_table() -> increases "nl_table_users"
nfnetlink_bind()
# does not unlock the table as it's locked by netlink_bind()
__request_module()
call_usermodehelper_exec()
This triggers "modprobe nf_conntrack_netlink" from kernel, netlink_bind()
won't return until modprobe process is done.
"modprobe xfrm_user":
xfrm_user_init()
register_pernet_subsys()
-> grab pernet_ops_rwsem
..
netlink_table_grab()
calls schedule() as "nl_table_users" is non-zero
so modprobe is blocked because netlink_bind() increased
nl_table_users while also holding pernet_ops_rwsem.
"modprobe nf_conntrack_netlink" runs and inits nf_conntrack_netlink:
ctnetlink_init()
register_pernet_subsys()
-> blocks on "pernet_ops_rwsem" thanks to xfrm_user module
both modprobe processes wait on one another -- neither can make
progress.
Switch netlink_bind() to "nowait" modprobe -- this releases the netlink
table lock, which then allows both modprobe instances to complete.

netfilter did not expect that skb_dst_force() can cause skb to lose its
dst entry.
I got a bug report with a skb->dst NULL dereference in netfilter
output path. The backtrace contains nf_reinject(), so the dst might have
been cleared when skb got queued to userspace.
Other users were fixed via
if (skb_dst(skb)) {
skb_dst_force(skb);
if (!skb_dst(skb))
goto handle_err;
}
But I think its preferable to make the 'dst might be cleared' part
of the function explicit.
In netfilter case, skb with a null dst is expected when queueing in
prerouting hook, so drop skb for the other hooks.
v2:
v1 of this patch returned true in case skb had no dst entry.
Eric said:
Say if we have two skb_dst_force() calls for some reason
on the same skb, only the first one will return false.
This now returns false even when skb had no dst, as per Erics
suggestion, so callers might need to check skb_dst() first before
skb_dst_force().

If a fresh array block is allocated during resize, the current in-memory
set size should be increased by the size of the block, not replaced by it.
Before the fix, adding entries to a hash set type, leading to a table
resize, caused an inconsistent memory size to be reported. This becomes
more obvious when swapping sets with similar sizes:

while unregistering ipvs module, ops_free_list calls
__ip_vs_cleanup, then nf_unregister_net_hooks be called to
do remove nf hook entries. It need a RCU period to finish,
however net->ipvs is set to NULL immediately, which will
trigger NULL pointer dereference when a packet is hooked
and handled by ip_vs_in where net->ipvs is dereferenced.
Another scene is ops_free_list call ops_free to free the
net_generic directly while __ip_vs_cleanup finished, then
calling ip_vs_in will triggers use-after-free.
This patch moves nf_unregister_net_hooks from __ip_vs_cleanup()
to __ip_vs_dev_cleanup(), where rcu_barrier() is called by
unregister_pernet_device -> unregister_pernet_operations,
that will do the needed grace period.

[ Upstream commit 946c0d8e6ed43dae6527e878d0077c1e11015db0 ]
This patch fixes netfilter hook traversal when there are more than 1 hooks
returning NF_QUEUE verdict. When the first queue reinjects the packet,
'nf_reinject' starts traversing hooks with a proper hook_index. However,
if it again receives a NF_QUEUE verdict (by some other netfilter hook), it
queues the packet with a wrong hook_index. So, when the second queue
reinjects the packet, it re-executes hooks in between.

nf_tables_fill_chain_info() can be called both from dumps (rcu read locked)
or from the transaction path if a userspace process subscribed to nftables
notifications.
In the 'table dump' case, rcu_access_pointer() cannot be used: We do not
hold transaction mutex so the pointer can be NULLed right after the check.
Just unconditionally fetch the value, then have the helper return
immediately if its NULL.
In the notification case we don't hold the rcu read lock, but updates are
prevented due to transaction mutex. Use rcu_dereference_check() to make lockdep
aware of this.

doesn't work, failing to parse H323-UserInformation.
nf_h323_error_boundary() compares contents of the bitstring,
not the addresses, preventing valid H.323 packets from being
conntrack'd.
This looks like an oversight from when CHECK_BOUND macro was

commit e9666d10a5677a494260d60d1fa0b73cc7646eb3 upstream.
Currently, CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL just means "I _want_ to use jump label".
The jump label is controlled by HAVE_JUMP_LABEL, which is defined
like this:
#if defined(CC_HAVE_ASM_GOTO) && defined(CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL)
# define HAVE_JUMP_LABEL
#endif
We can improve this by testing 'asm goto' support in Kconfig, then
make JUMP_LABEL depend on CC_HAS_ASM_GOTO.
Ugly #ifdef HAVE_JUMP_LABEL will go away, and CONFIG_JUMP_LABEL will
match to the real kernel capability.

With NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_TEE=y and IP6_NF_IPTABLES=m, we get a link
error when referencing the NF_DUP_IPV6 module:
net/netfilter/xt_TEE.o: In function `tee_tg6':
xt_TEE.c:(.text+0x14): undefined reference to `nf_dup_ipv6'
The problem here is the 'select NF_DUP_IPV6 if IP6_NF_IPTABLES'
that forces NF_DUP_IPV6 to be =m as well rather than setting it
to =y as was intended here. Adding a soft dependency on
IP6_NF_IPTABLES avoids that broken configuration.

[ Upstream commit 40ba1d9b4d19796afc9b7ece872f5f3e8f5e2c13 ]
The abort path can cause a double-free of an anonymous set.
Added-and-to-be-aborted rule looks like this:
udp dport { 137, 138 } drop
The to-be-aborted transaction list looks like this:
newset
newsetelem
newsetelem
rule
This gets walked in reverse order, so first pass disables the rule, the
set elements, then the set.
After synchronize_rcu(), we then destroy those in same order: rule, set
element, set element, newset.
Problem is that the anonymous set has already been bound to the rule, so
the rule (lookup expression destructor) already frees the set, when then
cause use-after-free when trying to delete the elements from this set,
then try to free the set again when handling the newset expression.
Rule releases the bound set in first place from the abort path, this
causes the use-after-free on set element removal when undoing the new
element transactions. To handle this, skip new element transaction if
set is bound from the abort path.
This is still causes the use-after-free on set element removal. To
handle this, remove transaction from the list when the set is already
bound.

Add .release_ops, that is called in case of error at a later stage in
the expression initialization path, ie. .select_ops() has been already
set up operations and that needs to be undone. This allows us to unwind
.select_ops from the error path, ie. release the dynamic operations for
this extension.
Moreover, allocate one single operation instead of recycling them, this
comes at the cost of consuming a bit more memory per rule, but it
simplifies the infrastructure.

[ Upstream commit 947e492c0fc2132ae5fca081a9c2952ccaab0404 ]
When I moved the refcount to refcount_t type I missed the fact that
refcount_inc() will result in use-after-free warning with
CONFIG_REFCOUNT_FULL=y builds.
The correct fix would be to init the reference count to 1 at allocation
time, but, unfortunately we cannot do this, as we can't undo that
in case something else fails later in the batch.
So only solution I see is to special-case the 'new entry' condition
and replace refcount_inc() with a "delayed" refcount_set(1) in this case,
as done here.
The .activate callback can be removed to simplify things, we only
need to make sure that deactivate() decrements/unlinks the entry
from the list at end of transaction phase (commit or abort).

Anonymous sets that are bound to rules from the same transaction trigger
a kernel splat from the abort path due to double set list removal and
double free.
This patch updates the logic to search for the transaction that is
responsible for creating the set and disable the set list removal and
release, given the rule is now responsible for this. Lookup is reverse
since the transaction that adds the set is likely to be at the tail of
the list.
Moreover, this patch adds the unbind step to deliver the event from the
commit path. This should not be done from the worker thread, since we
have no guarantees of in-order delivery to the listener.
This patch removes the assumption that both activate and deactivate
callbacks need to be provided.

->destroy is only allowed to free data, or do other cleanups that do not
have side effects on other state, such as visibility to other netlink
requests.
Such things need to be done in ->deactivate.
As a transaction can fail, we need to make sure we can undo such
operations, therefore ->activate() has to be provided too.
So print a warning and refuse registration if expr->ops provides
only one of the two operations.

The nft_compat destroy function deletes the nft_xt object from a list.
This isn't allowed anymore. Destroy functions are called asynchronously,
i.e. next batch can find the object that has a pending ->destroy()
invocation:
cpu0 cpu1
worker
->destroy for_each_entry()
if (x == ...
return x->ops;
list_del(x)
kfree_rcu(x)
expr->ops->... // ops was free'd
To resolve this, the list_del needs to occur before the transaction
mutex gets released. nf_tables has a 'deactivate' hook for this
purpose, so use that to unlink the object from the list.

[ Upstream commit cd5125d8f51882279f50506bb9c7e5e89dc9bef3 ]
Splits unbind_set into destroy_set and unbinding operation.
Unbinding removes set from lists (so new transaction would not
find it anymore) but keeps memory allocated (so packet path continues
to work).
Rebind function is added to allow unrolling in case transaction
that wants to remove set is aborted.
Destroy function is added to free the memory, but this could occur
outside of transaction in the future.

[ Upstream commit cf52572ebbd7189a1966c2b5fc34b97078cd1dce ]
There are two problems with nft_compat since the netlink config
plane uses a per-netns mutex:
1. Concurrent add/del accesses to the same list
2. accesses to a list element after it has been free'd already.
This patch fixes the first problem.
Freeing occurs from a work queue, after transaction mutexes have been
released, i.e., it still possible for a new transaction (even from
same net ns) to find the to-be-deleted expression in the list.
The ->destroy functions are not allowed to have any such side effects,
i.e. the list_del() in the destroy function is not allowed.
This part of the problem is solved in the next patch.
I tried to make this work by serializing list access via mutex
and by moving list_del() to a deactivate callback, but
Taehee spotted following race on this approach:
NET #0 NET #1
>select_ops()
->init()
->select_ops()
->deactivate()
->destroy()
nft_xt_put()
kfree_rcu(xt, rcu_head);
->init() <-- use-after-free occurred.
Unfortunately, we can't increment reference count in
select_ops(), because we can't undo the refcount increase in
case a different expression fails in the same batch.
(The destroy hook will only be called in case the expression
was initialized successfully).
