2019-10-11netfilter: nf_tables: allow lookups in dynamic setsFlorian Westphal
[ Upstream commit acab713177377d9e0889c46bac7ff0cfb9a90c4d ] This un-breaks lookups in sets that have the 'dynamic' flag set. Given this active example configuration: table filter { set set1 { type ipv4_addr size 64 flags dynamic,timeout timeout 1m } chain input { type filter hook input priority 0; policy accept; } } ... this works: nft add rule ip filter input add @set1 { ip saddr } -> whenever rule is triggered, the source ip address is inserted into the set (if it did not exist). This won't work: nft add rule ip filter input ip saddr @set1 counter Error: Could not process rule: Operation not supported In other words, we can add entries to the set, but then can't make matching decision based on that set. That is just wrong -- all set backends support lookups (else they would not be very useful). The failure comes from an explicit rejection in nft_lookup.c. Looking at the history, it seems like NFT_SET_EVAL used to mean 'set contains expressions' (aka. "is a meter"), for instance something like nft add rule ip filter input meter example { ip saddr limit rate 10/second } or nft add rule ip filter input meter example { ip saddr counter } The actual meaning of NFT_SET_EVAL however, is 'set can be updated from the packet path'. 'meters' and packet-path insertions into sets, such as 'add @set { ip saddr }' use exactly the same kernel code (nft_dynset.c) and thus require a set backend that provides the ->update() function. The only set that provides this also is the only one that has the NFT_SET_EVAL feature flag. Removing the wrong check makes the above example work. While at it, also fix the flag check during set instantiation to allow supported combinations only. [ Upstream commit 89a26cd4b501e9511d3cd3d22327fc76a75a38b3 ] When running a 64-bit kernel with a 32-bit iptables binary, the size of the xt_nfacct_match_info struct diverges. kernel: sizeof(struct xt_nfacct_match_info) : 40 iptables: sizeof(struct xt_nfacct_match_info)) : 36 Trying to append nfacct related rules results in an unhelpful message. Although it is suggested to look for more information in dmesg, nothing can be found there. # iptables -A <chain> -m nfacct --nfacct-name <acct-object> iptables: Invalid argument. Run `dmesg' for more information. This patch fixes the memory misalignment by enforcing 8-byte alignment within the struct's first revision. This solution is often used in many other uapi netfilter headers. 2019-08-25netfilter: conntrack: Use consistent ct id hash calculationDirk Morris
commit 656c8e9cc1badbc18eefe6ba01d33ebbcae61b9a upstream. Change ct id hash calculation to only use invariants. Currently the ct id hash calculation is based on some fields that can change in the lifetime on a conntrack entry in some corner cases. The current hash uses the whole tuple which contains an hlist pointer which will change when the conntrack is placed on the dying list resulting in a ct id change. This patch also removes the reply-side tuple and extension pointer from the hash calculation so that the ct id will will not change from initialization until confirmation. [ Upstream commit 1b0890cd60829bd51455dc5ad689ed58c4408227 ] Thomas and Juliana report a deadlock when running: (rmmod nf_conntrack_netlink/xfrm_user) conntrack -e NEW -E & modprobe -v xfrm_user They provided following analysis: conntrack -e NEW -E netlink_bind() netlink_lock_table() -> increases "nl_table_users" nfnetlink_bind() # does not unlock the table as it's locked by netlink_bind() __request_module() call_usermodehelper_exec() This triggers "modprobe nf_conntrack_netlink" from kernel, netlink_bind() won't return until modprobe process is done. "modprobe xfrm_user": xfrm_user_init() register_pernet_subsys() -> grab pernet_ops_rwsem .. netlink_table_grab() calls schedule() as "nl_table_users" is non-zero so modprobe is blocked because netlink_bind() increased nl_table_users while also holding pernet_ops_rwsem. "modprobe nf_conntrack_netlink" runs and inits nf_conntrack_netlink: ctnetlink_init() register_pernet_subsys() -> blocks on "pernet_ops_rwsem" thanks to xfrm_user module both modprobe processes wait on one another -- neither can make progress. Switch netlink_bind() to "nowait" modprobe -- this releases the netlink table lock, which then allows both modprobe instances to complete. 2019-07-31net: make skb_dst_force return true when dst is refcountedFlorian Westphal
[ Upstream commit b60a77386b1d4868f72f6353d35dabe5fbe981f2 ] netfilter did not expect that skb_dst_force() can cause skb to lose its dst entry. I got a bug report with a skb->dst NULL dereference in netfilter output path. The backtrace contains nf_reinject(), so the dst might have been cleared when skb got queued to userspace. Other users were fixed via if (skb_dst(skb)) { skb_dst_force(skb); if (!skb_dst(skb)) goto handle_err; } But I think its preferable to make the 'dst might be cleared' part of the function explicit. In netfilter case, skb with a null dst is expected when queueing in prerouting hook, so drop skb for the other hooks. v2: v1 of this patch returned true in case skb had no dst entry. Eric said: Say if we have two skb_dst_force() calls for some reason on the same skb, only the first one will return false. This now returns false even when skb had no dst, as per Erics suggestion, so callers might need to check skb_dst() first before skb_dst_force(). 2019-07-31ipset: Fix memory accounting for hash types on resizeStefano Brivio
[ Upstream commit 11921796f4799ca9c61c4b22cc54d84aa69f8a35 ] If a fresh array block is allocated during resize, the current in-memory set size should be increased by the size of the block, not replaced by it. Before the fix, adding entries to a hash set type, leading to a table resize, caused an inconsistent memory size to be reported. It need a RCU period to finish, however net->ipvs is set to NULL immediately, which will trigger NULL pointer dereference when a packet is hooked and handled by ip_vs_in where net->ipvs is dereferenced. Another scene is ops_free_list call ops_free to free the net_generic directly while __ip_vs_cleanup finished, then calling ip_vs_in will triggers use-after-free. This patch moves nf_unregister_net_hooks from __ip_vs_cleanup() to __ip_vs_dev_cleanup(), where rcu_barrier() is called by unregister_pernet_device -> unregister_pernet_operations, that will do the needed grace period. When the first queue reinjects the packet, 'nf_reinject' starts traversing hooks with a proper hook_index. However, if it again receives a NF_QUEUE verdict (by some other netfilter hook), it queues the packet with a wrong hook_index. So, when the second queue reinjects the packet, it re-executes hooks in between. [ Upstream commit 8e2f311a68494a6677c1724bdcb10bada21af37c ] Following command: iptables -D FORWARD -m physdev ... causes connectivity loss in some setups. Reason is that iptables userspace will probe kernel for the module revision of the physdev patch, and physdev has an artificial dependency on br_netfilter (xt_physdev use makes no sense unless a br_netfilter module is loaded). This causes the "phydev" module to be loaded, which in turn enables the "call-iptables" infrastructure. bridged packets might then get dropped by the iptables ruleset. The better fix would be to change the "call-iptables" defaults to 0 and enforce explicit setting to 1, but that breaks backwards compatibility. This does the next best thing: add a request_module call to checkentry. This was a stray '-D ... -m physdev' won't activate br_netfilter anymore. 2019-03-23ipvs: fix dependency on nf_defrag_ipv6Andrea Claudi
[ Upstream commit 098e13f5b21d3398065fce8780f07a3ef62f4812 ] ipvs relies on nf_defrag_ipv6 module to manage IPv6 fragmentation, but lacks proper Kconfig dependencies and does not explicitly request defrag features. As a result, if netfilter hooks are not loaded, when IPv6 fragmented packet are handled by ipvs only the first fragment makes through. Fix it properly declaring the dependency on Kconfig and registering netfilter hooks on ip_vs_add_service() and ip_vs_new_dest(). [ Upstream commit 4e35c1cb9460240e983a01745b5f29fe3a4d8e39 ] It is possible that two concurrent packets originating from the same socket of a connection-less protocol (e.g. UDP) can end up having different IP_CT_DIR_REPLY tuples which results in one of the packets being dropped. To illustrate this, consider the following simplified scenario: 1. Packet A and B are sent at the same time from two different threads by same UDP socket. No matching conntrack entry exists yet. Both packets cause allocation of a new conntrack entry. 2. get_unique_tuple gets called for A. No clashing entry found. conntrack entry for A is added to main conntrack table. 3. get_unique_tuple is called for B and will find that the reply tuple of B is already taken by A. It will allocate a new UDP source port for B to resolve the clash. 4. conntrack entry for B cannot be added to main conntrack table because its ORIGINAL direction is clashing with A and the REPLY directions of A and B are not the same anymore due to UDP source port reallocation done in step 3. This patch modifies nf_conntrack_tuple_taken so it doesn't consider colliding reply tuples if the IP_CT_DIR_ORIGINAL tuples are equal. 2019-01-09netfilter: nf_conncount: fix garbage collection confirm raceFlorian Westphal
commit b36e4523d4d56e2595e28f16f6ccf1cd6a9fc452 upstream. Yi-Hung Wei and Justin Pettit found a race in the garbage collection scheme used by nf_conncount. When doing list walk, we lookup the tuple in the conntrack table. If the lookup fails we remove this tuple from our list because the conntrack entry is gone. This is the common cause, but turns out its not the only one. The list entry could have been created just before by another cpu, i.e. the conntrack entry might not yet have been inserted into the global hash. The avoid this, we introduce a timestamp and the owning cpu. If the entry appears to be stale, evict only if: 1. The current cpu is the one that added the entry, or, 2. The timestamp is older than two jiffies The second constraint allows GC to be taken over by other cpu too (e.g. because a cpu was offlined or napi got moved to another cpu). We can't pretend the 'doubtful' entry wasn't in our list. Instead, when we don't find an entry indicate via IS_ERR that entry was removed ('did not exist' or withheld ('might-be-unconfirmed'). This most likely also fixes a xt_connlimit imbalance earlier reported by Dmitry Andrianov. 2018-12-17ipvs: call ip_vs_dst_notifier earlier than ipv6_dev_notfXin Long
[ Upstream commit 2a31e4bd9ad255ee40809b5c798c4b1c2b09703b ] ip_vs_dst_event is supposed to clean up all dst used in ipvs' destinations when a net dev is going down. But it works only when the dst's dev is the same as the dev from the event. Now with the same priority but late registration, ip_vs_dst_notifier is always called later than ipv6_dev_notf where the dst's dev is set to lo for NETDEV_DOWN event. As the dst's dev lo is not the same as the dev from the event in ip_vs_dst_event, ip_vs_dst_notifier doesn't actually work. Also as these dst have to wait for dest_trash_timer to clean them up. It would cause some non-permanent kernel warnings: unregister_netdevice: waiting for br0 to become free. Usage count = 3 To fix it, call ip_vs_dst_notifier earlier than ipv6_dev_notf by increasing its priority to ADDRCONF_NOTIFY_PRIORITY + 5. Note that for ipv4 route fib_netdev_notifier doesn't set dst's dev to lo in NETDEV_DOWN event, so this fix is only needed when IP_VS_IPV6 is defined. 2018-11-21netfilter: conntrack: fix calculation of next bucket number in early_dropVasily Khoruzhick
commit f393808dc64149ccd0e5a8427505ba2974a59854 upstream. If there's no entry to drop in bucket that corresponds to the hash, early_drop() should look for it in other buckets. But since it increments hash instead of bucket number, it actually looks in the same bucket 8 times: hsize is 16k by default (14 bits) and hash is 32-bit value, so reciprocal_scale(hash, hsize) returns the same value for hash..hash+7 in most cases. Fix it by increasing bucket number instead of hash and rename _hash to bucket to avoid future confusion. 2018-10-10netfilter: xt_cluster: add dependency on conntrack moduleMartin Willi
[ Upstream commit c1dc2912059901f97345d9e10c96b841215fdc0f ] The cluster match requires conntrack for matching packets. If the netns does not have conntrack hooks registered, the match does not work at all. Implicitly load the conntrack hook for the family, exactly as many other extensions do. This ensures that the match works even if the hooks have not been registered by other means. 2018-09-15netfilter: fix memory leaks on netlink_dump_start errorFlorian Westphal
[ Upstream commit 3e673b23b541b8e7f773b2d378d6eb99831741cd ] Shaochun Chen points out we leak dumper filter state allocations stored in dump_control->data in case there is an error before netlink sets cb_running (after which ->done will be called at some point). In order to fix this, add .start functions and move allocations there. Same pattern as used in commit 90fd131afc565159c9e0ea742f082b337e10f8c6 ("netfilter: nf_tables: move dumper state allocation into ->start"). 2018-09-15ipvs: fix race between ip_vs_conn_new() and ip_vs_del_dest()Tan Hu
[ Upstream commit a53b42c11815d2357e31a9403ae3950517525894 ] We came across infinite loop in ipvs when using ipvs in docker env. When ipvs receives new packets and cannot find an ipvs connection, it will create a new connection, then if the dest is unavailable (i.e. IP_VS_DEST_F_AVAILABLE), the packet will be dropped sliently. But if the dropped packet is the first packet of this connection, the connection control timer never has a chance to start and the ipvs connection cannot be released. [ Upstream commit c6cc94df65c3174be92afbee638f11cbb5e606a7 ] Its possible to rename two chains to the same name in one transaction: nft add chain t c1 nft add chain t c2 nft 'rename chain t c1 c3;rename chain t c2 c3' This creates two chains named 'c3'. Appears to be harmless, both chains can still be deleted both by name or handle, but, nevertheless, its a bug. Walk transaction log and also compare vs. the pending renames. Both chains can still be deleted, but nevertheless it is a bug as we don't allow to create chains with identical names, so we should prevent this from happening-by-rename too.
