2022-08-25serial: 8250_dw: Store LSR into lsr_saved_flags in dw8250_tx_wait_empty()Ilpo Järvinen
[ Upstream commit af14f3007e2dca0d112f10f6717ba43093f74e81 ] Make sure LSR flags are preserved in dw8250_tx_wait_empty(). This function is called from a low-level out function and therefore cannot call serial_lsr_in() as it would lead to infinite recursion. It is borderline if the flags need to be saved here at all since this code relates to writing LCR register which usually implies no important characters should be arriving. 2022-07-29tty: use new tty_insert_flip_string_and_push_buffer() in pty_write()Jiri Slaby
commit a501ab75e7624d133a5a3c7ec010687c8b961d23 upstream. There is a race in pty_write(). pty_write() can be called in parallel with e.g. ioctl(TIOCSTI) or ioctl(TCXONC) which also inserts chars to the buffer. Provided, tty_flip_buffer_push() in pty_write() is called outside the lock, it can commit inconsistent tail. This can lead to out of bounds writes and other issues. See the Link below. To fix this, we have to introduce a new helper called tty_insert_flip_string_and_push_buffer(). It does both tty_insert_flip_string() and tty_flip_buffer_commit() under the port lock. It also calls queue_work(), but outside the lock. See 71a174b39f10 (pty: do tty_flip_buffer_push without port->lock in pty_write) for the reasons. Keep the helper internal-only (in drivers' tty.h). It is not intended to be used widely. All users were converted in the previous patches, so remove tty_schedule_flip() completely while inlining its body into tty_flip_buffer_push(). One less exported function. commit 4f532c1e25319e42996ec18a1f473fd50c8e575d upstream. Functions tty_termios_encode_baud_rate() and uart_update_timeout() should be called with the baudrate value which was set to hardware. Linux then report exact values via ioctl(TCGETS2) to userspace. Change mvebu_uart_baud_rate_set() function to return baudrate value which was set to hardware and propagate this value to above mentioned functions. With this change userspace would see precise value in termios c_ospeed field. If uart_set_info() fail to request new regions by serial8250_request_std_resource() but the return value of serial8250_request_std_resource() is 0, The system incorrectly considers that the resource application is successful and does not attempt to restore the old setting. A null pointer reference is triggered when the port resource is later invoked. Drop support for these ioctls: * PIO_FONT, PIO_FONTX * GIO_FONT, GIO_FONTX * PIO_FONTRESET As was demonstrated by commit 90bfdeef83f1 (tty: make FONTX ioctl use the tty pointer they were actually passed), these ioctls are not used from userspace, as: 1) they used to be broken (set up font on current console, not the open one) and racy (before the commit above) 2) KDFONTOP ioctl is used for years instead Note that PIO_FONTRESET is defunct on most systems as VGA_CONSOLE is set on them for ages. That turns on BROKEN_GRAPHICS_PROGRAMS which makes PIO_FONTRESET just return an error. We are removing KD_FONT_FLAG_OLD here as it was used only by these removed ioctls. kd.h header exists both in kernel and uapi headers, so we can remove the kernel one completely. Everyone includeing kd.h will now automatically get the uapi one. There are now unused definitions of the ioctl numbers and "struct consolefontdesc" in kd.h, but as it is a uapi header, I am not touching these. 2022-06-25serial: 8250: Store to lsr_save_flags after lsr readIlpo Järvinen
commit be03b0651ffd8bab69dfd574c6818b446c0753ce upstream. Not all LSR register flags are preserved across reads. Therefore, LSR readers must store the non-preserved bits into lsr_save_flags. This fix was initially mixed into feature commit f6f586102add ("serial: 8250: Handle UART without interrupt on TEMT using em485"). However, that feature change had a flaw and it was reverted to make room for simpler approach providing the same feature. The embedded fix got reverted with the feature change. Re-add the lsr_save_flags fix and properly mark it's a fix. We hold sport->port.lock in position (1) of thread 1 and use del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler also need sport->port.lock in position (2) of thread 2. As a result, sa1100_set_termios() will block forever. This patch moves del_timer_sync() before spin_lock_irqsave() in order to prevent the deadlock. 2022-06-14serial: 8250_fintek: Check SER_RS485_RTS_* only with RS485Ilpo Järvinen
[ Upstream commit af0179270977508df6986b51242825d7edd59caf ] SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND and SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND relate to behavior within RS485 operation. The driver checks if they have the same value which is not possible to realize with the hardware. The check is taken regardless of SER_RS485_ENABLED flag and -EINVAL is returned when the check fails, which creates problems. This check makes it unnecessarily complicated to turn RS485 mode off as simple zeroed serial_rs485 struct will trigger that equal values check. In addition, the driver itself memsets its rs485 structure to zero when RS485 is disabled but if userspace would try to make an TIOCSRS485 ioctl() call with the very same struct, it would end up failing with -EINVAL which doesn't make much sense. [ Upstream commit 589f892ac8ef244e47c5a00ffd8605daa1eaef8e ] The uart_ops startup() callback is called without interrupts disabled and without port->lock locked, relatively late during the boot process (from the call path of console_on_rootfs()). If the device is a console, it was already previously registered and could be actively printing messages. Since the startup() callback is reading/writing registers used by the console write() callback (AML_UART_CONTROL), its access must be synchronized using the port->lock. Currently it is not. The startup() callback is the only function that explicitly enables interrupts. Without the synchronization, it is possible that interrupts become accidentally permanently disabled. But there are too many printk() on the kmalloc() path, and kmalloc() can be called from anywhere, so changing printk() to printk_deferred() is too complicated and inelegant. Therefore, this patch chooses to specify __GFP_NOWARN to kmalloc(), so that printk() will not be called, and this deadlock problem can be avoided. Looking for example in chapter 5.4.6.3.5 at the description for the encoding of a flow control on command it becomes obvious, that the type and length field is always present whereas the value may be zero bytes long. The current implementation omits the length field if the value is not present. This is wrong. Correct this by always sending the length in gsm_control_transmit(). So far only the modem status command (MSC) has included a value and encoded its length directly. Therefore, also change gsmtty_modem_update(). Fix the range check in gsm_config() and the value handling in gsm_control_send() and gsm_control_retransmit() to comply with 3GPP 27.010. However, removing the queues is done without explicit control of the underlying buffers. Flush those before freeing up our queues to ensure that all outgoing queues are cleared consistently. Otherwise, a new mux connection establishment attempt may time out while the underlying tty is still busy sending out the remaining data from the previous connection. However, 'txframe' stores the whole frame including frame header, checksum and start/end flags. We also need to consider the byte stuffing overhead. Define constant for the protocol overhead and adjust the 'txframe' size calculation accordingly to reserve enough space for a complete mux frame including byte stuffing for advanced option mode. Note that no byte stuffing is applied to the start and end flag. Also use MAX_MTU instead of MAX_MRU as this buffer is used for data transmission. This is set 1 for the last byte in the sequence. gsmtty_modem_update() handles this correctly but gsm_dlci_data_output() fails to set EA to 1. There is no case in which we encode two signal octets as there is no case in which we send out a break signal. Therefore, always set the EA bit to 1 for the signal octet to fix this. The EndRun PTP/1588 dual serial port device is based on the Oxford Semiconductor OXPCIe952 UART device with the PCI vendor:device ID set for EndRun Technologies and is therefore driven by a fixed 62.5MHz clock input derived from the 100MHz PCI Express clock. The clock rate is divided by the oversampling rate of 16 as it is supplied to the baud rate generator, yielding the baud base of 3906250. Replace the incorrect baud base of 4000000 with the right value of 3906250 then, complementing commit 6cbe45d8ac93 ("serial: 8250: Correct the clock for OxSemi PCIe devices"). Commit 76821e222c18 ("serial: imx: ensure that RX irqs are off if RX is off") accidentally enabled overrun interrupts unconditionally when deferring DMA enable until after the receiver has been enabled during startup. Fix this by using the DMA-initialised instead of DMA-enabled flag to determine whether overrun interrupts should be enabled. Note that overrun interrupts are already accounted for in imx_uart_clear_rx_errors() when using DMA since commit 41d98b5da92f ("serial: imx-serial - update RX error counters when DMA is used"). [ Upstream commit 988c7c00691008ea1daaa1235680a0da49dab4e8 ] The commit c15c3747ee32 (serial: samsung: fix potential soft lockup during uart write) added an unlock of port->lock before uart_write_wakeup() and a lock after it. It was always problematic to write data from tty_ldisc_ops::write_wakeup and it was even documented that way. We fixed the line disciplines to conform to this recently. So if there is still a missed one, we should fix them instead of this workaround. On the top of that, s3c24xx_serial_tx_dma_complete() in this driver still holds the port->lock while calling uart_write_wakeup(). So revert the wrap added by the commit above. A return of 0 causes the boot option/value to be listed as an Unknown kernel parameter and added to init's (limited) environment strings. So return 1 from kgdboc_option_setup(). While there is a check that it acts in the right state (i.e. waiting for RTS-after-send to pass after sending some chars) but the following might happen: - CPU1: some chars send, shifter becomes empty, stop tx timer armed - CPU0: more chars send before RTS-after-send expired - CPU0: shifter empty irq, port lock taken - CPU1: tx timer triggers, waits for port lock - CPU0: em485->active_timer = &em485->stop_tx_timer, hrtimer_start(), releases lock() - CPU1: get lock, see em485->active_timer == &em485->stop_tx_timer, tear down RTS too early This fix bases on research done by Steffen Trumtrar. Provided ->shutdown() is not called when ->activate() fails, nothing actually frees the buffer in this case. Fix this by properly freeing the buffer in a designated label. Therefore, I refer to the newer 27.010 here. Chapter 5.4.6.3.7 describes the encoding of the control signal octet used by the MSC (modem status command). The same encoding is also used in convergence layer type 2 as described in chapter 5.5.2. Table 7 and 24 both require the DV (data valid) bit to be set 1 for outgoing control signal octets sent by the DTE (data terminal equipment), i.e. for the initiator side. Currently, the DV bit is only set if CD (carrier detect) is on, regardless of the side. This patch fixes this behavior by setting the DV bit on the initiator side unconditionally. The link is closed on the initiator side without informing the responder about this event. The responder assumes the link is open after sending a UA frame to answer the SABM frame. The link gets stuck in a half open state. This patch fixes this by initiating the proper link termination procedure after link setup timeout instead of silently closing it down. There is a build error when using a kernel .config file from 'kernel test robot' for a different build problem: hppa64-linux-ld: drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_gsc.o: in function `.LC3': (.data.rel.ro+0x18): undefined reference to `iosapic_serial_irq' when: CONFIG_GSC=y CONFIG_SERIO_GSCPS2=y CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_GSC=y CONFIG_PCI is not set and hence PCI_LBA is not set. IOSAPIC depends on PCI_LBA, so IOSAPIC is not set/enabled. Make the use of iosapic_serial_irq() conditional to fix the build error. However, in n_tty driver, POLLRDNORM does not return until timeout even if there is terminal input, whereas POLLIN returns. The following test program works until kernel-3.17, but the test stops in poll() after commit 57087d515441 ("tty: Fix spurious poll() wakeups").
