2019-03-10staging: erofs: fix mis-acted TAIL merging behaviorGao Xiang
commit a112152f6f3a2a88caa6f414d540bd49e406af60 upstream. EROFS has an optimized path called TAIL merging, which is designed to merge multiple reads and the corresponding decompressions into one if these requests read continuous pages almost at the same time. In general, it behaves as follows: ________________________________________________________________ ... | TAIL . HEAD | PAGE | PAGE | TAIL . HEAD | ... _____|_combined page A_|________|________|_combined page B_|____ 1 ] -> [ 2 ] -> [ 3 If the above three reads are requested in the order 1-2-3, it will generate a large work chain rather than 3 individual work chains to reduce scheduling overhead and boost up sequential read. However, if Read 2 is processed slightly earlier than Read 1, currently it still generates 2 individual work chains (chain 1, 2) but it does in-place decompression for combined page A, moreover, if chain 2 decompresses ahead of chain 1, it will be a race and lead to corrupted decompressed page. This patch fixes it. 2019-03-05staging: rtl8723bs: Fix build error with Clang when inlining is disabledNathan Chancellor
[ Upstream commit 97715058b70da1262fd07798c8b2e3e894f759dd ] When CONFIG_NO_AUTO_INLINE was present in linux-next (which added '-fno-inline-functions' to KBUILD_CFLAGS), an allyesconfig build with Clang failed at the modpost stage: ERROR: "is_broadcast_mac_addr" [drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/r8723bs.ko] undefined! ERROR: "is_zero_mac_addr" [drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/r8723bs.ko] undefined! ERROR: "is_multicast_mac_addr" [drivers/staging/rtl8723bs/r8723bs.ko] undefined! These functions were marked as extern inline, meaning that if inlining doesn't happen, the function will be undefined, as it is above. This happens to work with GCC because the '-fno-inline-functions' option respects the __inline attribute so all instances of these functions are inlined as expected and the definition doesn't actually matter. However, with Clang and '-fno-inline-functions', a function has to be marked with the __always_inline attribute to be considered for inlining, which none of these functions are. Clang tries to find the symbol definition elsewhere as it was told and fails, which trickles down to modpost. To make sure that this code compiles regardless of compiler and make the intention of the code clearer, use 'static' to ensure these functions are always defined, regardless of inlining. Additionally, silence a checkpatch warning by switching from '__inline' to 'inline'. What the author missed is that memcmp() returns false when the two strings are equal, whereas ether_addr_equal() returns true when the two addresses are equal. One side effect of this error is that the strength of an unassociated AP was much stronger than the same AP after association. This bug is reported at bko#201611. 2018-12-05staging: vchiq_arm: fix compat VCHIQ_IOC_AWAIT_COMPLETIONBen Wolsieffer
commit 5a96b2d38dc054c0bbcbcd585b116566cbd877fe upstream. The compatibility ioctl wrapper for VCHIQ_IOC_AWAIT_COMPLETION assumes that the native ioctl always uses a message buffer and decrements msgbufcount. Certain message types do not use a message buffer and in this case msgbufcount is not decremented, and completion->header for the message is NULL. Because the wrapper unconditionally decrements msgbufcount, the calling process may assume that a message buffer has been used even when it has not. This results in a memory leak in the userspace code that interfaces with this driver. When msgbufcount is decremented, the userspace code assumes that the buffer can be freed though the reference in completion->header, which cannot happen when the reference is NULL. This patch causes the wrapper to only decrement msgbufcount when the native ioctl decrements it. Note that we cannot simply copy the native ioctl's value of msgbufcount, because the wrapper only retrieves messages from the native ioctl one at a time, while userspace may request multiple messages. See https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/2703 for more discussion of this patch. 2018-09-11staging: vboxvideo: Change address of scanout buffer on page-flipHans de Goede
Commit 2408898e3b6c ("staging: vboxvideo: Add page-flip support") only calls vbox_crtc_do_set_base() on page-flips, but despite that function's name it only pins the new fb, unpins the old fb and sets vbox_crtc->fb_offset. It does not program the hardware to scan out at the new vbox_crtc->fb_offset value. This was causing only every other frame (assuming page-flipping between 2 buffers) to be shown since we kept scanning out of the old (now unpinned!) buffer. This commit fixes this by adding code to vbox_crtc_page_flip() to tell the hardware to scanout from the new fb_offset. Commit 1daddbc8dec5 ("staging: vboxvideo: Update driver to use drm_dev_register.") replaced the obsolere drm_get_pci_dev() with normal pci probe and remove functions. The gasket in-kernel framework, recently introduced under staging, re-implements what is already long-time provided by the UIO subsystem, with extra PCI BAR remapping and MSI conveniences. Before moving it out of staging, make sure we add the new bits to the UIO framework instead, then transform its signle client, the Apex driver, to a proper UIO driver (uio_driver.h). 2018-08-27staging: wilc1000: revert "fix TODO to compile spi and sdio components in ↵Arnd Bergmann
single module" The TODO item named "make spi and sdio components coexist in one build" was apparently addressed a long time ago, but never removed from the TODO file. However, the new patch that tries to address it actually makes it worse again by duplicating the common parts of the driver into two separate modules rather than sharing them. This also introduces a build regression when one of the two is built-in while the other is a loadable module: drivers/staging/wilc1000/wilc_debugfs.o:(.data+0x10): undefined reference to `__this_module' Reverting the patch makes it build again. I'm leaving the TODO file modification though, as there is nothing left to do for this item. A related problem however still seems to exist: one still cannot have multiple concurrent instances of wilc1000 devices present in the system, as there are lots of shared global variables such as host_interface.c:static struct wilc_vif *periodic_rssi_vif; wilc_sdio.c:static struct wilc_sdio g_sdio; wilc_wlan.c:static enum chip_ps_states chip_ps_state = CHIP_WAKEDUP; wilc_wlan.c:static u32 pending_acks; wilc_wfi_cfgoperations.c:int wilc_connecting; In order to have multiple instances working (sdio, spi, or mixed), all such variables need to be dynamically allocated per instance and stored in 'struct wilc' or one of the structures referenced by it.
