2021-02-24virtio/s390: implement virtio-ccw revision 2 correctlyCornelia Huck
CCW_CMD_READ_STATUS was introduced with revision 2 of virtio-ccw, and drivers should only rely on it being implemented when they negotiated at least that revision with the device. However, virtio_ccw_get_status() issued READ_STATUS for any device operating at least at revision 1. If the device accepts READ_STATUS regardless of the negotiated revision (which some implementations like QEMU do, even though the spec currently does not allow it), everything works as intended. While a device rejecting the command should also be handled gracefully, we will not be able to see any changes the device makes to the status, such as setting NEEDS_RESET or setting the status to zero after a completed reset. We negotiated the revision to at most 1, as we never bumped the maximum revision; let's do that now and properly send READ_STATUS only if we are operating at least at revision 2. 2021-02-13s390/qdio: remove 'merge_pending' mechanismJulian Wiedmann
For non-QEBSM devices, get_buf_states() merges PENDING and EMPTY buffers into a single group of finished buffers. To allow the upper-layer driver to differentiate between the two states, qdio_check_pending() looks at each buffer's state again and sets the sbal_state flag to QDIO_OUTBUF_STATE_FLAG_PENDING accordingly. So effectively we're spending overhead on _every_ Output Queue inspection, just to avoid some additional TX completion calls in case a group of buffers has completed with mixed EMPTY / PENDING state. Given that PENDING buffers should rarely occur, this is a bad trade-off. In particular so as the additional checks in get_buf_states() affect _all_ device types (even those that don't use the PENDING state). Rip it all out, and just report the PENDING completions separately as we already do for QEBSM devices. For QEBSM devices the 'merge_pending' mechanism in get_buf_states() doesn't apply, and we can actually get SLSB_P_OUTPUT_PENDING returned. So for this case propagating the PENDING state to the driver via the queue's sbal_state doesn't make sense and creates unnecessary overhead. Instead introduce a new QDIO_ERROR_* flag that gets passed to the driver, and triggers the same processing as if the buffers were flagged as QDIO_OUTBUF_STATE_FLAG_PENDING. 2021-02-09s390/zcrypt: return EIO when msg retry limit reachedHarald Freudenberger
When a msg is retried because the lower ap layer returns -EAGAIN there is a retry limit (currently 10). When this limit is reached the last return code from the lower layer is returned, causing the userspace to get -1 on the ioctl with errno EAGAIN. This EAGAIN is misleading here. After 10 retry attempts the userspace should receive a clear failure indication like EINVAL or EIO or ENODEV. However, the reason why these retries all fail is unclear. On an invalid message EINVAL would be returned by the lower layer, and if devices go away or are not available an ENODEV is seen. So this patch now reworks the retry loops to return EIO to userspace when the retry limit is reached. We currently track the time of the most recent QDIO Adapter Interrupt. This is a system-wide timestamp (as such interrupts are not bound to one specific qdio device). If interrupt processing stalls on one device but is functional for a different device, the timestamp continues to be updated and is of no help for problem diagnosis. So for debugging purposes also track the time of the last Data IRQ on a per-device level. Collect this data in the legacy non-AI path as well. 2021-02-09s390/qdio: make thinint registration symmetricJulian Wiedmann
tiqdio_add_device() adds the device to the tiq_list of eligible targets for a data IRQ, which gets walked on each QDIO Adapter Interrupt to inspect their DSCIs. But currently the tiqdio_add_device() / tiqdio_remove_device() calls are not symmetric - the device is removed within qdio_shutdown(), but only added by qdio_activate(). So depending on the call sequence and encountered errors, we might be trying to remove a list entry in qdio_shutdown() that was never even added to the list. This required additional INIT_LIST_HEAD() calls to ensure that the list entry was always in a consistent state. All drivers now fence the IRQ delivery via qdio_start_irq() / qdio_stop_irq(), so we can nicely integrate this tiq_list management with the other steps needed for QDIO Adapter IRQ (de-)registration (qdio_establish_thinint() / qdio_shutdown_thinint()). As the naming suggests these get called during qdio_establish() and qdio_shutdown(), with proper symmetry and roll-back after errors. With this we longer need to worry about misplaced list removals, and thus can clean up the list API abuse (INIT_LIST_HEAD() should not be called on list entries). So remove the tasklet code for Input Queues, streamline the IRQ handlers and push the tasklet struct into struct qdio_output_q. Stop maintaining the skb_send_q list for TRANS_HIPER sockets. Not only is it extra overhead, but keeping around a list of skb clones means that we later also have to match the ->sk_txnotify() calls against these clones and free them accordingly. The current matching logic (comparing the skbs' shinfo location) is frustratingly fragile, and breaks if the skb's head is mangled in any sort of way while passing from dev_queue_xmit() to the device's HW queue. Also adjust the interface for ->sk_txnotify(), to make clear that we don't actually care about any skb internals. When do_qdio() returns with an unexpected error, qeth_flush_buffers() kicks off a recovery action. In such a case there's no point in starting TX completion processing, the device gets torn down anyway. 2021-01-28s390/qeth: make cast type selection for af_iucv skbs robustJulian Wiedmann
As part of the TX queue selection for af_iucv skbs, qeth_l3_get_cast_type_rcu() ends up calling qeth_get_ether_cast_type(). Which is rather fragile, since such skbs don't have a proper ETH header and we rely on it being zeroed out in the right places. Add a separate case for ETH_P_AF_IUCV instead that does the right thing. When later building the HW header for such skbs, don't hard-code the cast type but follow the same path as for other protocol types. A master key change on a CCA card may cause an immediately following request to derive an protected key from a secure key to fail with error condition 8/2290. The recommendation from firmware is to retry with 1 second sleep. So now the low level cca functions return -EAGAIN when this error condition is seen and the paes retry function will evaluate the return value. Seeing EAGAIN and running in process context results in trying to sleep for 1 s now. The queues assigned to a matrix mediated device are currently reset when: * The VFIO_DEVICE_RESET ioctl is invoked * The mdev fd is closed by userspace (QEMU) * The mdev is removed from sysfs. Immediately after the reset of a queue, a call is made to disable interrupts for the queue. This is entirely unnecessary because the reset of a queue disables interrupts, so this will be removed. Furthermore, vfio_ap_irq_disable() does an unconditional PQAP/AQIC which can result in a specification exception (when the corresponding facility is not available), so this is actually a bugfix. The vfio_ap device driver registers a group notifier with VFIO when the file descriptor for a VFIO mediated device for a KVM guest is opened to receive notification that the KVM pointer is set (VFIO_GROUP_NOTIFY_SET_KVM event). When the KVM pointer is set, the vfio_ap driver takes the following actions: 1. Stashes the KVM pointer in the vfio_ap_mdev struct that holds the state of the mediated device. 2. Calls the kvm_get_kvm() function to increment its reference counter. 3. Sets the function pointer to the function that handles interception of the instruction that enables/disables interrupt processing. 4. Sets the masks in the KVM guest's CRYCB to pass AP resources through to the guest. In order to avoid memory leaks, when the notifier is called to receive notification that the KVM pointer has been set to NULL, the vfio_ap device driver should reverse the actions taken when the KVM pointer was set. 2021-01-25s390/dasd: Fix inconsistent kobject removalJan Höppner
Our intention was to only remove path kobjects whenever a device is being set offline. However, one corner case was missing. If a device is disabled and enabled (using the IOCTLs BIODASDDISABLE and BIODASDENABLE respectively), the enabling process will call dasd_eckd_reload_device() which itself calls dasd_eckd_read_conf() in order to update path information. During that update, dasd_eckd_clear_conf_data() clears all old data and also removes all kobjects. This will leave us with an inconsistent state of path kobjects and a subsequent path verification leads to a failing kobject creation. Fix this by removing kobjects only in the context of offlining a device as initially intended. Due to insufficient locking, qeth_core_set_online() and qeth_dev_layer2_store() can run in parallel, both attempting to load & setup the discipline (and stepping on each other toes along the way). A similar race can also occur between qeth_core_remove_device() and qeth_dev_layer2_store(). Access to .discipline is meant to be protected by the discipline_mutex, so add/expand the locking in qeth_core_remove_device() and qeth_core_set_online(). When qeth_dev_layer2_store() - holding the discipline_mutex - waits inside qeth_l*_remove_device() for a qeth_do_reset() thread to complete, we can hit a deadlock if qeth_do_reset() concurrently calls qeth_set_online() and thus tries to aquire the discipline_mutex. Move the discipline_mutex locking outside of qeth_set_online() and qeth_set_offline(), and turn the discipline into a parameter so that callers understand the dependency. To fix the deadlock, we can now relax the locking: As already established, qeth_l*_remove_device() waits for qeth_do_reset() to complete. So qeth_do_reset() itself is under no risk of having card->discipline ripped out while it's running, and thus doesn't need to take the discipline_mutex. In dasd_alias_disconnect_device_from_lcu the device is removed from any list on the LCU. Afterwards the LCU is removed from the lcu list if it does not contain devices any longer. The lcu->lock protects the lcu from parallel updates. But to cancel all workers and wait for completion the lcu->lock has to be unlocked. If two devices are removed in parallel and both are removed from the LCU the first device that takes the lcu->lock again will delete the LCU because it is already empty but the second device also tries to free the LCU which leads to a list corruption of the lcu list. Fix by removing the device right before the lcu is checked without unlocking the lcu->lock in between. 2020-12-17s390/dasd: fix list corruption of pavgroup group listStefan Haberland
dasd_alias_add_device() moves devices to the active_devices list in case of a scheduled LCU update regardless if they have previously been in a pavgroup or not. Example: device A and B are in the same pavgroup. Device A has already been in a pavgroup and the private->pavgroup pointer is set and points to a valid pavgroup. While going through dasd_add_device it is moved from the pavgroup to the active_devices list. In parallel device B might be removed from the same pavgroup in remove_device_from_lcu() which in turn checks if the group is empty and deletes it accordingly because device A has already been removed from there. When now device A enters remove_device_from_lcu() it is tried to remove it from the pavgroup again because the pavgroup pointer is still set and again the empty group will be cleaned up which leads to a list corruption. Fix by setting private->pavgroup to NULL in dasd_add_device. If the device has been the last device on the pavgroup an empty pavgroup remains but this will be cleaned up by the scheduled lcu_update which iterates over all existing pavgroups.
