2021-11-26mwifiex: Send DELBA requests according to specJonas Dreßler
[ Upstream commit cc8a8bc37466f79b24d972555237f3d591150602 ] While looking at on-air packets using Wireshark, I noticed we're never setting the initiator bit when sending DELBA requests to the AP: While we set the bit on our del_ba_param_set bitmask, we forget to actually copy that bitmask over to the command struct, which means we never actually set the initiator bit. Fix that and copy the bitmask over to the host_cmd_ds_11n_delba command struct. 2021-11-26mwifiex: Properly initialize private structure on interface type changesJonas Dreßler
[ Upstream commit c606008b70627a2fc485732a53cc22f0f66d0981 ] When creating a new virtual interface in mwifiex_add_virtual_intf(), we update our internal driver states like bss_type, bss_priority, bss_role and bss_mode to reflect the mode the firmware will be set to. When switching virtual interface mode using mwifiex_init_new_priv_params() though, we currently only update bss_mode and bss_role. In order for the interface mode switch to actually work, we also need to update bss_type to its proper value, so do that. This fixes a crash of the firmware (because the driver tries to execute commands that are invalid in AP mode) when switching from station mode to AP mode. 2021-11-26mwifiex: Run SET_BSS_MODE when changing from P2P to STATION vif-typeJonas Dreßler
[ Upstream commit c2e9666cdffd347460a2b17988db4cfaf2a68fb9 ] We currently handle changing from the P2P to the STATION virtual interface type slightly different than changing from P2P to ADHOC: When changing to STATION, we don't send the SET_BSS_MODE command. We do send that command on all other type-changes though, and it probably makes sense to send the command since after all we just changed our BSS_MODE. Looking at prior changes to this part of the code, it seems that this is simply a leftover from old refactorings. Since sending the SET_BSS_MODE command is the only difference between mwifiex_change_vif_to_sta_adhoc() and the current code, we can now use mwifiex_change_vif_to_sta_adhoc() for both switching to ADHOC and STATION interface type. This does not fix any particular bug and just "looked right", so there's a small chance it might be a regression. 2021-11-26mwifiex: Read a PCI register after writing the TX ring write pointerJonas Dreßler
commit e5f4eb8223aa740237cd463246a7debcddf4eda1 upstream. On the 88W8897 PCIe+USB card the firmware randomly crashes after setting the TX ring write pointer. The issue is present in the latest firmware version 15.68.19.p21 of the PCIe+USB card. Those firmware crashes can be worked around by reading any PCI register of the card after setting that register, so read the PCI_VENDOR_ID register here. The reason this works is probably because we keep the bus from entering an ASPM state for a bit longer, because that's what causes the cards firmware to crash. This fixes a bug where during RX/TX traffic and with ASPM L1 substates enabled (the specific substates where the issue happens appear to be platform dependent), the firmware crashes and eventually a command timeout appears in the logs. 2021-11-26mwifiex: fix division by zero in fw download pathJohan Hovold
commit 89f8765a11d8df49296d92c404067f9b5c58ee26 upstream. Add the missing endpoint sanity checks to probe() to avoid division by zero in mwifiex_write_data_sync() in case a malicious device has broken descriptors (or when doing descriptor fuzz testing). Only add checks for the firmware-download boot stage, which require both command endpoints, for now. The driver looks like it will handle a missing endpoint during normal operation without oopsing, albeit not very gracefully as it will try to submit URBs to the default pipe and fail. Note that USB core will reject URBs submitted for endpoints with zero wMaxPacketSize but that drivers doing packet-size calculations still need to handle this (cf. commit 2548288b4fb0 ("USB: Fix: Don't skip endpoint descriptors with maxpacket=0")). 2021-07-20mwifiex: re-fix for unaligned accessesArnd Bergmann
[ Upstream commit 8f4e3d48bb50765ab27ae5bebed2595b20de80a1 ] A patch from 2017 changed some accesses to DMA memory to use get_unaligned_le32() and similar interfaces, to avoid problems with doing unaligned accesson uncached memory. However, the change in the mwifiex_pcie_alloc_sleep_cookie_buf() function ended up changing the size of the access instead, as it operates on a pointer to u8. Change this function back to actually access the entire 32 bits. Note that the pointer is aligned by definition because it came from dma_alloc_coherent(). The problem is now that _mwifiex_fw_dpc() calls mwifiex_free_adapter() in case firmware initialization fails. That ends up calling mwifiex_cleanup_pcie(). Note that all those calls are still running on the workqueue. So when mwifiex_cleanup_pcie() now calls cancel_work_sync(), it's really waiting on itself to complete, causing a deadlock. This commit fixes the deadlock by skipping cancel_work_sync() on a reset failure path. 2020-10-29mwifiex: don't call del_timer_sync() on uninitialized timerTetsuo Handa
[ Upstream commit 621a3a8b1c0ecf16e1e5667ea5756a76a082b738 ] syzbot is reporting that del_timer_sync() is called from mwifiex_usb_cleanup_tx_aggr() from mwifiex_unregister_dev() without checking timer_setup() from mwifiex_usb_tx_init() was called [1]. Ganapathi Bhat proposed a possibly cleaner fix, but it seems that that fix was forgotten [2]. "grep -FrB1 'del_timer' drivers/ | grep -FA1 '.function)'" says that currently there are 28 locations which call del_timer[_sync]() only if that timer's function field was initialized (because timer_setup() sets that timer's function field). Therefore, let's use same approach here. [ Upstream commit 53708f4fd9cfe389beab5c8daa763bcd0e0b4aef ] clang static analysis reports this problem: sdio.c:2403:3: warning: Attempt to free released memory kfree(card->mpa_rx.buf); ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When mwifiex_init_sdio() fails in its first call to mwifiex_alloc_sdio_mpa_buffer, it falls back to calling it again. If the second alloc of mpa_tx.buf fails, the error handler will try to free the old, previously freed mpa_rx.buf. Reviewing the code, it looks like a second double free would happen with mwifiex_cleanup_sdio(). So set both pointers to NULL when they are freed. Also note that 'mwifiex_ret_802_11_scan()' already uses GFP_ATOMIC. So use GFP_ATOMIC instead of GFP_KERNEL when memory is allocated in 'mwifiex_parse_single_response_buf()'. [ Upstream commit 4afc850e2e9e781976fb2c7852ce7bac374af938 ] Following commit e18696786548 ("mwifiex: Prevent memory corruption handling keys") the mwifiex driver fails to authenticate with certain networks, specifically networks with 256 bit keys, and repeatedly asks for the password. This check fails on networks with 256 bit keys due to the current storage size for AES keys in struct mwifiex_aes_param being only 128 bit. To fix this issue, increase the storage size for AES keys to 256 bit. Before commit 1e58252e334d ("mwifiex: Fix heap overflow in mmwifiex_process_tdls_action_frame()"), mwifiex_process_tdls_action_frame() already had too many magic numbers. But this commit just added a ton more, in the name of checking for buffer overflows. That seems like a really bad idea. Let's make these magic numbers a little less magic, by (a) factoring out 'pos[1]' as 'ie_len' (b) using 'sizeof' on the appropriate source or destination fields where possible, instead of bare numbers (c) dropping redundant checks, per below. Regarding redundant checks: the beginning of the loop has this: if (pos + 2 + pos[1] > end) break; but then individual 'case's include stuff like this: if (pos > end - 3) return; if (pos[1] != 1) return; Note that the second 'return' (validating the length, pos[1]) combined with the above condition (ensuring 'pos + 2 + length' doesn't exceed 'end'), makes the first 'return' (whose 'if' can be reworded as 'pos > end - pos[1] - 2') redundant. Rather than unwind the magic numbers there, just drop those conditions. When processing WLAN_EID_COUNTRY element, there is no upper limit check for country_ie_len before calling memcpy. The destination buffer domain_info->triplet is an array of length MWIFIEX_MAX_TRIPLET_802_11D(83). The remote attacker can build a fake AP with the same ssid as real AP, and send malicous beacon packet with long WLAN_EID_COUNTRY elemen (country_ie_len > 83). Attacker can force STA connect to fake AP on a different channel. When the victim STA connects to fake AP, will trigger the heap buffer overflow. Fix this by checking for length and if found invalid, don not connect to the AP. This fix addresses CVE-2019-14895. Add that offset back in, mirroring mwifiex_is_rsn_oui_present(). As it stands, commit 63d7ef36103d breaks compatibility with WPA (not WPA2) 802.11n networks, since we hit the "info: Disable 11n if AES is not supported by AP" case in mwifiex_is_network_compatible(). commit 63d7ef36103d26f20325a921ecc96a3288560146 upstream. Per the 802.11 specification, vendor IEs are (at minimum) only required to contain an OUI. A type field is also included in ieee80211.h (struct ieee80211_vendor_ie) but doesn't appear in the specification. The remaining fields (subtype, version) are a convention used in WMM headers. Thus, we should not reject vendor-specific IEs that have only the minimum length (3 bytes) -- we should skip over them (since we only want to match longer IEs, that match either WMM or WPA formats). We can reject elements that don't have the minimum-required 3 byte OUI. While we're at it, move the non-standard subtype and version fields into the WMM structs, to avoid this confusion in the future about generic "vendor header" attributes. That array has MWIFIEX_MAX_AC_RX_RATES (74) elements and it's used to generate some debugfs information. The "rate_index" variable comes from the network skb->data[] and it is a u8 so it's in the 0-255 range. We need to cap it to prevent an array overflow. The main thread will handle the response and will do a wake_up_interruptible(), unblocking rmmod thread. 3. On getting unblocked, rmmod thread will make rx_cmd.urb = NULL in mwifiex_usb_free(). 4. The main thread will try to resubmit rx_cmd.urb in mwifiex_usb_submit_rx_urb(), which is NULL. To fix, wait for main thread to complete before calling mwifiex_usb_free(). Commit b014e96d1abb ("PCI: Protect pci_error_handlers->reset_notify() usage with device_lock()") resolves races between driver reset and removal, but it introduces some new deadlock problems. If we see a timeout while we've already started suspending, removing, or shutting down the driver, we might see: (a) a worker thread, running mwifiex_pcie_work() -> mwifiex_pcie_card_reset_work() -> pci_reset_function() (b) a removal thread, running mwifiex_pcie_remove() -> mwifiex_free_adapter() -> mwifiex_unregister() -> mwifiex_cleanup_pcie() -> cancel_work_sync(&card->work) Unfortunately, mwifiex_pcie_remove() already holds the device lock that pci_reset_function() is now requesting, and so we see a deadlock. It's necessary to cancel and synchronize our outstanding work before tearing down the driver, so we can't have this work wait indefinitely for the lock. It's reasonable to only "try" to reset here, since this will mostly happen for cases where it's already difficult to reset the firmware anyway (e.g., while we're suspending or powering off the system). And if reset *really* needs to happen, we can always try again later. Driver is doing netif_carrier_off during suspend, which will set the IFF_LOWER_UP flag to 0. As a result certain applications will think this as a real carrier down and behave accordingly. This will cause issues like loss of IP address, for example. To fix this use netif_device_dettach during suspend.
