2021-10-06net: stmmac: allow CSR clock of 300MHzJesper Nilsson
[ Upstream commit 08dad2f4d541fcfe5e7bfda72cc6314bbfd2802f ] The Synopsys Ethernet IP uses the CSR clock as a base clock for MDC. The divisor used is set in the MAC_MDIO_Address register field CR (Clock Rate) The divisor is there to change the CSR clock into a clock that falls below the IEEE 802.3 specified max frequency of 2.5MHz. If the CSR clock is 300MHz, the code falls back to using the reset value in the MAC_MDIO_Address register, as described in the comment above this code. However, 300MHz is actually an allowed value and the proper divider can be estimated quite easily (it's just 1Hz difference!) A CSR frequency of 300MHz with the maximum clock rate value of 0x5 (STMMAC_CSR_250_300M, a divisor of 124) gives somewhere around ~2.42MHz which is below the IEEE 802.3 specified maximum. For the ARTPEC-8 SoC, the CSR clock is this problematic 300MHz, and unfortunately, the reset-value of the MAC_MDIO_Address CR field is 0x0. This leads to a clock rate of zero and a divisor of 42, and gives an MDC frequency of ~7.14MHz. Allow CSR clock of 300MHz by making the comparison inclusive. [ Upstream commit 4367355dd90942a71641c98c40c74589c9bddf90 ] When compiling with clang in certain configurations, an objtool warning appears: drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/dwmac-ipq806x.o: warning: objtool: ipq806x_gmac_probe() falls through to next function phy_modes() This happens because the unreachable annotation in the third switch statement is not eliminated. The compiler should know that the first default case would prevent the second and third from being reached as the comment notes but sanitizer options can make it harder for the compiler to reason this out. Help the compiler out by eliminating the unreachable() annotation and unifying the default case error handling so that there is no objtool warning, the meaning of the code stays the same, and there is less duplication. Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were correct or not. Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a later kernel change. The original commit causes a memory leak when it is trying to claim it is properly handling errors. Revert this change and fix it up properly in a follow-on commit. 2021-05-22net: stmmac: Do not enable RX FIFO overflow interruptsYannick Vignon
[ Upstream commit 8a7cb245cf28cb3e541e0d6c8624b95d079e155b ] The RX FIFO overflows when the system is not able to process all received packets and they start accumulating (first in the DMA queue in memory, then in the FIFO). An interrupt is then raised for each overflowing packet and handled in stmmac_interrupt(). This is counter-productive, since it brings the system (or more likely, one CPU core) to its knees to process the FIFO overflow interrupts. stmmac_interrupt() handles overflow interrupts by writing the rx tail ptr into the corresponding hardware register (according to the MAC spec, this has the effect of restarting the MAC DMA). However, without freeing any rx descriptors, the DMA stops right away, and another overflow interrupt is raised as the FIFO overflows again. Since the DMA is already restarted at the end of stmmac_rx_refill() after freeing descriptors, disabling FIFO overflow interrupts and the corresponding handling code has no side effect, and eliminates the interrupt storm when the RX FIFO overflows. 2021-05-22net: stmmac: Set FIFO sizes for ipq806xJonathan McDowell
[ Upstream commit e127906b68b49ddb3ecba39ffa36a329c48197d3 ] Commit eaf4fac47807 ("net: stmmac: Do not accept invalid MTU values") started using the TX FIFO size to verify what counts as a valid MTU request for the stmmac driver. This is unset for the ipq806x variant. Looking at older patches for this it seems the RX + TXs buffers can be up to 8k, so set appropriately. (I sent this as an RFC patch in June last year, but received no replies. I've been running with this on my hardware (a MikroTik RB3011) since then with larger MTUs to support both the internal qca8k switch and VLANs with no problems. (ip link set eth0 mtu xxx returning EINVAL) This is due to tx_fifo_size being 0, since this value is used to compute valid MTU range. Like dwmac-sunxi (with commit 806fd188ce2a ("net: stmmac: dwmac-sunxi: Provide TX and RX fifo sizes")) dwmac-sun8i need to have tx and rx fifo sizes set. I have used values from datasheets. After this patch, setting a non-default MTU (like 1000) value works and network is still useable. commit c511819d138de38e1637eedb645c207e09680d0f upstream. stmmac_xmit() call stmmac_tx_timer_arm() at the end to modify tx timer to do the transmission cleanup work. Imagine such a situation, stmmac enters suspend immediately after tx timer modified, it's expire callback stmmac_tx_clean() would not be invoked. This could affect BQL, since netdev_tx_sent_queue() has been called, but netdev_tx_completed_queue() have not been involved, as a result, dql_avail(&dev_queue->dql) finally always return a negative value. __dev_queue_xmit->__dev_xmit_skb->qdisc_run->__qdisc_run->qdisc_restart->dequeue_skb: if ((q->flags & TCQ_F_ONETXQUEUE) && netif_xmit_frozen_or_stopped(txq)) // __QUEUE_STATE_STACK_XOFF is set Net core will stop transmitting any more. Finillay, net watchdong would timeout. To fix this issue, we should call netdev_tx_reset_queue() in stmmac_resume(). Therefore, when tc_setup_cbs() function is called to re-enable CBS, the operation mode of Tx Queue remains at DCB, which causing CBS fails to work. This patch updates the value of mode_to_use parameter to MTL_QUEUE_DCB after operation mode of Tx Queue is changed to DCB in stmmac_dma_qmode() callback function. [ Upstream commit 529254216773acd5039c07aa18cf06fd1f9fccdd ] While stmmac_pltfr_remove calls sun8i_dwmac_exit, the sun8i_dwmac_init and sun8i_dwmac_exit functions are also called by the stmmac_platform suspend/resume callbacks. They may be called many times during the device's lifetime and should not release resources used by the driver. Furthermore, there was no error handling in case registering the MDIO mux failed during probe, and the EPHY clock was never released at all. Fix all of these issues by moving the deinitialization code to a driver removal callback. Also ensure the EPHY is powered down before removal. Fix this by shifting the PRG_ETH0_CLK_M250_SEL_MASK accordingly as the "mask" in struct clk_mux expects the mask relative to the "shift" field in the same struct. While here, get rid of the PRG_ETH0_CLK_M250_SEL_SHIFT macro and use __ffs() to determine it from the existing PRG_ETH0_CLK_M250_SEL_MASK macro. 2020-12-30net: stmmac: delete the eee_ctrl_timer after napi disabledFugang Duan
[ Upstream commit 5f58591323bf3f342920179f24515935c4b5fd60 ] There have chance to re-enable the eee_ctrl_timer and fire the timer in napi callback after delete the timer in .stmmac_release(), which introduces to access eee registers in the timer function after clocks are disabled then causes system hang. Found this issue when do suspend/resume and reboot stress test. It is safe to delete the timer after napi disabled and disable lpi mode. 2020-10-14net: stmmac: removed enabling eee in EEE set callbackVoon Weifeng
[ Upstream commit 7241c5a697479c7d0c5a96595822cdab750d41ae ] EEE should be only be enabled during stmmac_mac_link_up() when the link are up and being set up properly. set_eee should only do settings configuration and disabling the eee. Without this fix, turning on EEE using ethtool will return "Operation not supported". This is due to the driver is in a dead loop waiting for eee to be advertised in the for eee to be activated but the driver will only configure the EEE advertisement after the eee is activated. Ethtool should only return "Operation not supported" if there is no EEE capbility in the MAC controller. This was observed as a failure to correctly receive IPv6 packets on a LAN to the all stations address. Use the new fallback support in the dwmac1000 driver to correctly achieve the same with the mainline IPQ806x driver. Confirmed to fix IPv6 functionality on an RB3011 router. [ Upstream commit 91a2559c1dc5b0f7e1256d42b1508935e8eabfbf ] In fine adjustement mode, which is the current default, the sub-second increment register is the number of nanoseconds that will be added to the clock when the accumulator overflows. At each clock cycle, the value of the addend register is added to the accumulator. Currently, we use 20ns = 1e09ns / 50MHz as this value whatever the frequency of the ptp clock actually is. The adjustment is then done on the addend register, only incrementing every X clock cycles X being the ratio between 50MHz and ptp_clock_rate (addend = 2^32 * 50MHz/ptp_clock_rate). This causes the following issues : - In case the frequency of the ptp clock is inferior or equal to 50MHz, the addend value calculation will overflow and the default addend value will be set to 0, causing the clock to not work at all. (For instance, for ptp_clock_rate = 50MHz, addend = 2^32). - The resolution of the timestamping clock is limited to 20ns while it is not needed, thus limiting the accuracy of the timestamping to 20ns. Fix this by setting sub-second increment to 2e09ns / ptp_clock_rate. It will allow to reach the minimum possible frequency for ptp_clk_ref, which is 5MHz for GMII 1000Mps Full-Duplex by setting the sub-second-increment to a higher value. For instance, for 25MHz, it gives ssinc = 80ns and default_addend = 2^31. It will also allow to use a lower value for sub-second-increment, thus improving the timestamping accuracy with frequencies higher than 100MHz, for instance, for 200MHz, ssinc = 10ns and default_addend = 2^31. v1->v2: - Remove modifications to the calculation of default addend, which broke compatibility with clock frequencies for which 2000000000 / ptp_clk_freq is not an integer. - Modify description according to discussions. One that enables the usage of the clock from the fpga for emac0 and emac1 as a ptp ref clock, and the other to allow signals from the fpga to reach emac0 and emac1. Currently, if the dwmac-socfpga has phymode set to PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_MII, PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_GMII, or PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_SGMII, both registers will be written and the ptp ref clock will be set as coming from the fpga. Separate the 2 register writes to only enable signals from the fpga to reach emac0 or emac1 when ptp ref clock is not coming from the fpga. The reason for that is that the DMA capabilities are not readable on this version of the IP, and there is also no 'tx-fifo-depth' property being provided in Device Tree. The property is documented as optional, and is not provided. Chen-Yu indicated that the FIFO sizes are 4KB for TX and 16KB for RX, so provide these values through platform data as an immediate fix until various Device Tree sources get updated accordingly. [ Upstream commit bd6f48546b9cb7a785344fc78058c420923d7ed8 ] GXBB and newer SoCs use the fixed FCLK_DIV2 (1GHz) clock as input for the m250_sel clock. Meson8b and Meson8m2 use MPLL2 instead, whose rate can be adjusted at runtime. So far we have been running MPLL2 with ~250MHz (and the internal m250_div with value 1), which worked enough that we could transfer data with an TX delay of 4ns. Unfortunately there is high packet loss with an RGMII PHY when transferring data (receiving data works fine though). Odroid-C1's u-boot is running with a TX delay of only 2ns as well as the internal m250_div set to 2 - no lost (TX) packets can be observed with that setting in u-boot.
