2018-01-12ixgbe: Don't assume dev->num_tc is equal to hardware TC configAlexander Duyck
The code throughout ixgbe was assuming that dev->num_tc was populated and configured with the driver, when in fact this can be configured via mqprio without any hardware coordination other than restricting us to the real number of Tx queues we advertise. Instead of handling things this way we need to keep a local copy of the number of TCs in use so that we don't accidentally pull in the TC configuration from mqprio when it is configured in software mode. 2016-04-25ixgbe: use BIT() macroJacob Keller
Several areas of ixgbe were written before widespread usage of the BIT(n) macro. With the impending release of GCC 6 and its associated new warnings, some usages such as (1 << 31) have been noted within the ixgbe driver source. Fix these wholesale and prevent future issues by simply using BIT macro instead of hand coded bit shifts. Also fix a few shifts that are shifting values into place by using the 'u' prefix to indicate unsigned. It doesn't strictly matter in these cases because we're not shifting by too large a value, but these are all unsigned values and should be indicated as such. 2013-01-19ixgbe: SR-IOV: dynamic IEEE DCBx default priority changesJohn Fastabend
IEEE DCBx has a mechanism to change the default user priority. In the normal case the OS can handle this via cgroups, iptables, socket, options etc. With SR-IOV and direct assigned VF devices the default priority needs to be set by the PF device so the inserted VLAN tag is correct. There were cases where the prio_tc_map was not populated when we were calling open. This will result in us incorrectly configuring the traffic classes when DCB is enabled. In order to correct this I have updated the code so that we now populate the values prior to allocating the q_vectors and calling ixgbe_open. 2012-05-09ixgbe: Set Drop_EN bit when multiple Rx queues are present w/o flow controlAlexander Duyck
The drop enable bit can be used to improve the performance of the adapter in the case of multiple queues being present. This performance gain is due to the fact that some slower CPUs can cause the FIFO to backfill preventing faster CPUs from receiving additional work. By setting the drop enable bit we prevent this and instead just drop the packets that would have been bound for the slower CPU. 2012-05-09ixgbe: Clean up priority based flow controlAlexander Duyck
This change cleans up the logic in the priority based flow control configuration routines. Both the 82599 and 82598 based routines perform similar functions however they are both arranged completely differently. This patch goes over both of them to clean up the code. In addition I am dropping the ixgbe_fc_pfc flow control mode and instead just replacing it with checks for if priority flow control is enabled. This allows us to maintain some of the link flow control information which allows for an easier transition between link and priority flow control. PFC stats are only tabulated when PFC is enabled. However in IEEE mode the ieee_pfc pfc_tc bits were not checked and the calculation was aborted. This results in statistics not being reported through ethtool and possible a false Tx hang occurring when receiving pause frames. We resolve this regression by fixing ixgbe_copy_dcb_cfg() to also check for FCoE application changes. 2012-04-03ixgbe: driver fix for link flapMultanen, Eric W
Fix up code so that changes in DCB settings are detected only when ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all is called. Previously, a series of 'change' commands followed by a call to ixgbe_dcbnl_set_all() would always be handled as a HW change - even if the net change was zero. This patch checks for this case of no actual change and skips going through the HW set process. Without this fix, the link could reset and result in a link flap. The core change in this patch is to check for changes in the ixgbe_copy_dcb_cfg() routine - and return a bitmask of detected changes. The other places where changes were detected previously can be removed. {g|s}etnumtcs() today returns a u8 that is only used by the DCB code to verify no error occurred. Today the driver implementations return negative error codes which end up being non-zero so the logic works out but triggers some sparse warnings. dcb netlink code calls setup_tc to init hardware traffic classes to use for DCB. At some call sites the return values are not checked for errors and in one case may return -EINVAL back to the net/dcbnl.c caller which is expecting a u8. Users expect the up2tc mapping to be maintained across a DCB enable/disable/enable transition. 2011-12-05ixgbe: DCB: IEEE transitions may fail to reprogram hardware.John Fastabend
Transitioning through an IEEE DCBX version from a CEE DCBX and back (CEE->IEEE->CEE) may leave IEEE attributes programmed in the hardware. DCB uses a bit field in the set routines to determine which attributes PG, PFC, APP need to be reprogrammed. This is needed because user flow allows queueing a series of changes and then reprogramming the hardware with the entire set in one operation. When transitioning from IEEE DCBX mode back into CEE DCBX mode the PG and PFC bits need to be set so the possibly different CEE attributes get programmed into the device. This patch fixes broken logic that was evaluating to 0 and never setting any bits. Further this removes some checks for num_tc in set routines. This logic only worked when the number of traffic classes and user priorities were equal. This is no longer the case for X540 devices. Besides we can trust user input in this case if the device is incorrectly configured the DCB bandwidths will be incorrectly mapped but no OOPs, BUG, or hardware failure will occur. The order of operations is important in DCBnl set_all(). When FCoE is configured it uses the up2tc map to learn which queues to configure the hardware offloads on. Therefore we need to setup the map before configuring FCoE. This is only seen when the both up2tc mappings and APP info are configured simultaneously. Returning the max traffic classes on get requests simplifies user space configurations because applications will know explicitly how many traffic classes can be used. Typical switch implementations use 2 or 3 traffic classes so this not seen often today. And user space can learn the number of traffic classes by return codes but this allows user space to configure ixgbe correctly at the start. Correct a check for change in FCoE priority when IEEE mode DCB is in use. In IEEE mode a different function has to be used to get the FCoE priority mask. Also, the check for the mask assumed that only one priority was set. In case there should be more than one, check just the bit. These changes help avoid link flapping issues that can come up when IEEE DCB is in use.
