2022-01-11atlantic: Fix buff_ring OOB in aq_ring_rx_cleanZekun Shen
[ Upstream commit 5f50153288452e10b6edd69ec9112c49442b054a ] The function obtain the next buffer without boundary check. We should return with I/O error code. The bug is found by fuzzing and the crash report is attached. It is an OOB bug although reported as use-after-free. 2021-12-08atlantic: Fix OOB read and write in hw_atl_utils_fw_rpc_waitZekun Shen
[ Upstream commit b922f622592af76b57cbc566eaeccda0b31a3496 ] This bug report shows up when running our research tools. The reports is SOOB read, but it seems SOOB write is also possible a few lines below. In details, fw.len and sw.len are inputs coming from io. A len over the size of self->rpc triggers SOOB. The patch fixes the bugs by adding sanity checks. The bugs are triggerable with compromised/malfunctioning devices. They are potentially exploitable given they first leak up to 0xffff bytes and able to overwrite the region later. The patch is tested with QEMU emulater. This is NOT tested with a real device. 2021-04-07net: ethernet: aquantia: Handle error cleanup of start on openNathan Rossi
[ Upstream commit 8a28af7a3e85ddf358f8c41e401a33002f7a9587 ] The aq_nic_start function can fail in a variety of cases which leaves the device in broken state. An example case where the start function fails is the request_threaded_irq which can be interrupted, resulting in a EINTR result. This can be manually triggered by bringing the link up (e.g. ip link set up) and triggering a SIGINT on the initiating process (e.g. Ctrl+C). This would put the device into a half configured state. Subsequently bringing the link up again would cause the napi_enable to BUG. In order to correctly clean up the failed attempt to start a device call aq_nic_stop. [ Upstream commit e7b5f97e6574dc4918e375d5f8d24ec31653cd6d ] Artificial HW reliability tests revealed a possible hangup in the driver. Normally, when device disappears from bus, all register reads returns 0xFFFFFFFF. At remote procedure invocation towards FW there is a logic where result is compared with -1 in a loop. That caused an infinite loop if hardware due to some issues disappears from bus. Add extra result checks to prevent this. macvlan and multicast handling is now mixed up. The explicit issue is that macvlan interface gets broken (no traffic) after clearing MULTICAST flag on the real interface. We now do separate logic and consider both ALLMULTI and MULTICAST flags on the device. Individual descriptors on LRO TCP session should be checked for CRC errors. It was discovered that HW recalculates L4 checksums on LRO session and does not break it up on bad L4 csum. Thus, driver should aggregate HW LRO L4 statuses from all individual buffers of LRO session and drop packet if one of the buffers has bad L4 checksum. 2019-08-31net: aquantia: fix out of memory condition on rx sideDmitry Bogdanov
On embedded environments with hard memory limits it is a normal although rare case when skb can't be allocated on rx part under high traffic. In such OOM cases napi_complete_done() was not called. So the napi object became in an invalid state like it is "scheduled". Kernel do not re-schedules the poll of that napi object. Consequently, kernel can not remove that object the system hangs on `ifconfig down` waiting for a poll. We are fixing this by gracefully closing napi poll routine with correct invocation of napi_complete_done. This was reproduced with artificially failing the allocation of skb to simulate an "out of memory" error case and check that traffic does not get stuck. 2019-08-31net: aquantia: linkstate irq should be oneshotIgor Russkikh
Declaring threaded irq handler should also indicate the irq is oneshot. It is oneshot indeed, because HW implements irq automasking on trigger. Not declaring this causes some kernel configurations to fail on interface up, because request_threaded_irq returned an err code. The issue was originally hidden on normal x86_64 configuration with latest kernel, because depending on interrupt controller, irq driver added ONESHOT flag on its own. Issue was observed on older kernels (4.14) where no such logic exists. 2019-08-31net: aquantia: reapply vlan filters on upDmitry Bogdanov
In case of device reconfiguration the driver may reset the device invisible for other modules, vlan module in particular. So vlans will not be removed&created and vlan filters will not be configured in the device. The patch reapplies the vlan filters at device start. In configuration of vlan over bridge over aquantia device it was found that vlan tagged traffic is dropped on chip. The reason is that bridge device enables promisc mode, but in atlantic chip vlan filters will still apply. So we have to corellate promisc settings with vlan configuration. The solution is to track in a separate state variable the need of vlan forced promisc. And also consider generic promisc configuration when doing vlan filter config. 2019-06-05net: aquantia: fix wol configuration not applied sometimesNikita Danilov
WoL magic packet configuration sometimes does not work due to couple of leakages found. Mainly there was a regression introduced during readx_poll refactoring. Next, fw request waiting time was too small. Sometimes that caused sleep proxy config function to return with an error and to skip WoL configuration. At last, WoL data were passed to FW from not clean buffer. That could cause FW to accept garbage as a random configuration data. 2019-05-27net: aquantia: tcp checksum 0xffff being handled incorrectlyNikita Danilov
Thats a known quirk in windows tcp stack it can produce 0xffff checksum. Thats incorrect but it is. Atlantic HW with LRO enabled handles that incorrectly and changes csum to 0xfffe - but indicates that csum is invalid. This causes driver to pass packet to linux networking stack with CSUM_NONE, stack eventually drops the packet. There is a quirk in atlantic HW to enable correct processing of 0xffff incorrect csum. Enable it. The visible bug is that windows link partner with software generated csums caused TCP connection to be unstable since all packets that csum value are dropped. Driver stops producing skbs on ring if a packet with FCS error was coalesced into LRO session. Ring gets hang forever. Thats a logical error in driver processing descriptors: When rx_stat indicates MAC Error, next pointer and eop flags are not filled. This confuses driver so it waits for descriptor 0 to be filled by HW. Solution is fill next pointer and eop flag even for packets with FCS error. In case no other traffic happening on the ring, full tx cleanup may not be completed. That may cause socket buffer to overflow and tx traffic to stuck until next activity on the ring happens. This is due to logic error in budget variable decrementor. Variable is compared with zero, and then post decremented, causing it to become MAX_INT. Solution is remove decrementor from the `for` statement and rewrite it in a clear way. aq_nic_update_ndev_stats pushes statistics to ndev->stats from system interface. This is not always good because it counts packets/bytes before any of rx filters (including mac filter). Its better to report the packet/bytes statistics from DMA counters which gives actual values of data transferred over pci. System level stats is still available via ethtool.
