2023-09-23media: tuners: qt1010: replace BUG_ON with a regular errorHans Verkuil
[ Upstream commit ee630b29ea44d1851bb6c903f400956604834463 ] BUG_ON is unnecessary here, and in addition it confuses smatch. Replacing this with an error return help resolve this smatch warning: drivers/media/tuners/qt1010.c:350 qt1010_init() error: buffer overflow 'i2c_data' 34 <= 34 Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil-cisco@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>
2023-09-23media: dvb: symbol fixup for dvb_attach()Greg Kroah-Hartman
commit 86495af1171e1feec79faa9b64c05c89f46e41d1 upstream. In commit 9011e49d54dc ("modules: only allow symbol_get of EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL modules") the use of symbol_get is properly restricted to GPL-only marked symbols. This interacts oddly with the DVB logic which only uses dvb_attach() to load the dvb driver which then uses symbol_get(). Fix this up by properly marking all of the dvb_attach attach symbols as EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL(). 2023-08-11treewide: Remove uninitialized_var() usageKees Cook
commit 3f649ab728cda8038259d8f14492fe400fbab911 upstream. Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1] (or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings (e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized, either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes. In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining needless uses with the following script: git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \ xargs perl -pi -e \ 's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g; s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;' drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid pathological white-space. No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0 for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64, alpha, and m68k. 2018-08-02media: dvb: convert tuner_info frequencies to HzMauro Carvalho Chehab
Right now, satellite tuner drivers specify frequencies in kHz, while terrestrial/cable ones specify in Hz. That's confusing for developers. However, the main problem is that universal tuners capable of handling both satellite and non-satelite delivery systems are appearing. We end by needing to hack the drivers in order to support such hybrid tuners. So, convert everything to specify tuner frequencies in Hz. Plese notice that a similar patch is also needed for frontends. 2017-12-11media: qt1010: fix bogus warningsMauro Carvalho Chehab
The logic at qt1010_init_meas1() and qt1010_init_meas2() are too complex for static analizers to identify that some vars are always be initialized. That causes smatch to produce the following warnings: drivers/media/tuners/qt1010.c:248 qt1010_init_meas1() error: uninitialized symbol 'val2'. drivers/media/tuners/qt1010.c:282 qt1010_init_meas2() error: uninitialized symbol 'val'. So, add annotations to prevent those bogus warnings. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@s-opensource.com>
2017-01-27[media] media: Drop FSF's postal address from the source code filesSakari Ailus
Drop the FSF's postal address from the source code files that typically contain mostly the license text. Of the 628 removed instances, 578 are outdated. The patch has been created with the following command without manual edits: git grep -l "675 Mass Ave\|59 Temple Place\|51 Franklin St" -- \ drivers/media/ include/media|while read i; do i=$i perl -e ' open(F,"< $ENV{i}"); $a=join("", <F>); $a =~ s/[ \t]*\*\n.*You should.*\n.*along with.*\n.*(\n.*USA.*$)?\n//m && $a =~ s/(^.*)Or, (point your browser to) /$1To obtain the license, $2\n$1/m; close(F); open(F, "> $ENV{i}"); print F $a; close(F);'; done Signed-off-by: Sakari Ailus <sakari.ailus@linux.intel.com>

implementations" While this patch sounded a good idea, unfortunately, it causes bad dependencies, as drivers that would otherwise work without the DVB core will now break: ERROR: "dvb_tuner_simple_release" [drivers/media/tuners/tea5767.ko] undefined! 2015-04-30[media] qt1010: avoid going past arrayMauro Carvalho Chehab
As reported by smatch: drivers/media/tuners/qt1010.c:357 qt1010_init() error: buffer overflow 'i2c_data' 34 <= 34 This should not happen with the current code, as the i2c_data array doesn't end with a QT1010_M1, but it doesn't hurt add a BUG_ON to notify if one modifies it and breaks.
