According to Bspec clock divisor registers in GeminiLake
should be initialized by shifting 1(<<) to amount of correspondent
divisor. While i915 was writing all this time that value as is.
Surprisingly that it by accident worked, until we met some issues
with Microtech Etab.

In nouveau_conn_reset(), if connector->state is true,
__drm_atomic_helper_connector_destroy_state() will be called,
but the memory pointed by asyc isn't freed. Memory leak happens
in the following function __drm_atomic_helper_connector_reset(),
where newly allocated asyc->state will be assigned to connector->state.
So using nouveau_conn_atomic_destroy_state() instead of
__drm_atomic_helper_connector_destroy_state to free the "old" asyc.

add_display_components() calls of_platform_populate, and we depopluate
on pdev remove, but not when probe fails. So if we get a probe deferral
in one of the components, we won't depopulate the platform. This causes
the core to keep references to devices which should be destroyed, which
causes issues when those same devices try to re-initialize on the next
probe attempt.
I think this is the reason we had issues with the gmu's device-managed
resources on deferral (worked around in commit 94e3a17f33a5).

When fixing up the clock in vop_crtc_mode_fixup() we're not doing it
quite correctly. Specifically if we've got the true clock 266666667 Hz,
we'll perform this calculation:
266666667 / 1000 => 266666
Later when we try to set the clock we'll do clk_set_rate(266666 *
1000). The common clock framework won't actually pick the proper clock
in this case since it always wants clocks <= the specified one.
Let's solve this by using DIV_ROUND_UP.

After data is copied to the cache entry, atomic_set is used indicate
that the data is the entry is valid without appropriate memory barriers.
Similarly the read side was missing the corresponding memory barriers.

The pixel clock unit in the first two registers (0x00 and 0x01) of
sii9022 is 10kHz, not 1kHz as in struct drm_display_mode. Division by
10 fixes the issue.

We need to know the link bandwidth to filter out modes we cannot
support, so we need to have read the display props before doing the
filtering.
To ensure we have up to date display props, call tc_get_display_props()

In drm_load_edid_firmware(), fwstr is allocated by kstrdup(). And fwstr
is dereferenced in the following codes. However, memory allocation
functions such as kstrdup() may fail and returns NULL. Dereferencing
this null pointer may cause the kernel go wrong. Thus we should check
this kstrdup() operation.
Further, if kstrdup() returns NULL, we should return ERR_PTR(-ENOMEM) to
the caller site.

It turns out that while disabling i2c bus access from software when the
GPU is suspended was a step in the right direction with:
commit 342406e4fbba ("drm/nouveau/i2c: Disable i2c bus access after
->fini()")
We also ended up accidentally breaking the vbios init scripts on some
older Tesla GPUs, as apparently said scripts can actually use the i2c
bus. Since these scripts are executed before initializing any
subdevices, we end up failing to acquire access to the i2c bus which has
left a number of cards with their fan controllers uninitialized. Luckily
this doesn't break hardware - it just means the fan gets stuck at 100%.
This also means that we've always been using our i2c busses before
initializing them during the init scripts for older GPUs, we just didn't
notice it until we started preventing them from being used until init.
It's pretty impressive this never caused us any issues before!
So, fix this by initializing our i2c pad and busses during subdev
pre-init. We skip initializing aux busses during pre-init, as those are
guaranteed to only ever be used by nouveau for DP aux transactions.

Nope, we don't need that patch in the v4.14 backport.
In v4.19.y we have two functions, drm_dev_put() and drm_dev_unref(), which are
aliases for one another (drm_dev_unref() just calls drm_dev_put()).
drm_dev_unref() is the older of the two, and was introduced back in v4.0.
drm_dev_put() was introduced in v4.15 with
9a96f55034e41 drm: introduce drm_dev_{get/put} functions
and slowly callers were moved from the old name (_unref) to the new name
(_put). The patch you mentioned, ac3b35f11a06, is one such patch where we are
replacing a drm_dev_unref() call with a drm_dev_put() call. This doesn't have
a functional change, but was necessary so that the third patch in the v4.19.y
series I sent would apply cleanly.
For the v4.14.y series, though, the drm_dev_put() function hasn't yet been
defined and everyone is still using drm_dev_unref(). So, we don't need a
backport of ac3b35f11a06, and I also had a small backport change in the last
patch of the v4.14.y series where I had to change a drm_dev_put() call with a
drm_dev_unref() call.
Just for posterity, the drm_dev_unref() calls were eventually all changed to
drm_dev_put() in v5.0, and drm_dev_unref() was removed entirely. That
happened with the following two patches:

Notify drm core before sending pending events during crtc disable.
This fixes the first event after disable having an old stale timestamp
by having drm_crtc_vblank_off update the timestamp to now.
This was seen while debugging weston log message:
Warning: computed repaint delay is insane: -8212 msec
This occurred due to:
1. driver starts up
2. fbcon comes along and restores fbdev, enabling vblank
3. vblank_disable_fn fires via timer disabling vblank, keeping vblank
seq number and time set at current value
(some time later)
4. weston starts and does a modeset
5. atomic commit disables crtc while it does the modeset
6. ipu_crtc_atomic_disable sends vblank with old seq number and time

While loading the DMC firmware we were double checking the headers made
sense, but in no place we checked that we were actually reading memory
we were supposed to. This could be wrong in case the firmware file is
truncated or malformed.
Before this patch:

mtk_dsi_stop() should be called after mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable(), which
needs ovl irq for drm_crtc_wait_one_vblank(), since after mtk_dsi_stop() is
called, ovl irq will be disabled. If drm_crtc_wait_one_vblank() is called
after last irq, it will timeout with this message: "vblank wait timed out
on crtc 0". This happens sometimes when turning off the screen.
In drm_atomic_helper.c#disable_outputs(),
the calling sequence when turning off the screen is:
1. mtk_dsi_encoder_disable()
--> mtk_output_dsi_disable()
--> mtk_dsi_stop(); /* sometimes make vblank timeout in
atomic_disable */
--> mtk_dsi_poweroff();
2. mtk_drm_crtc_atomic_disable()
--> drm_crtc_wait_one_vblank();
...
--> mtk_dsi_ddp_stop()
--> mtk_dsi_poweroff();
mtk_dsi_poweroff() has reference count design, change to make
mtk_dsi_stop() called in mtk_dsi_poweroff() when refcount is 0.

On the Arm Juno platform, the HDLCD pixel clock is constrained to 250KHz
resolution in order to avoid the tiny System Control Processor spending
aeons trying to calculate exact PLL coefficients. This means that modes
like my oddball 1600x1200 with 130.89MHz clock get rejected since the
rate cannot be matched exactly. In practice, though, this mode works
quite happily with the clock at 131MHz, so let's relax the check to
allow a little bit of slop.

Rather than allowing any old mode through, then subsequently refusing
unmatchable clock rates in atomic_check when it's too late to back out
and pick a different mode, let's do that validation up-front where it
will cause unsupported modes to be correctly pruned in the first place.
This also eliminates an issue whereby a perceived clock rate of 0 would
cause atomic disable to fail and prevent the module from being unloaded.

Our SDVO audio support is pretty bogus. We can't push audio over the
SDVO bus, so trying to enable audio in the SDVO control register doesn't
do anything. In fact it looks like the SDVO encoder will always mix in
the audio coming over HDA, and there's no (at least documented) way to
disable that from our side. So HDMI audio does work currently on gen4
but only by luck really. On gen3 it got broken by the referenced commit.
And what has always been missing on every platform is the ELD.
To pass the ELD to the audio driver we need to write it to magic buffer
in the SDVO encoder hardware which then gets pulled out via HDA in the
other end. Ie. pretty much the same thing we had for native HDMI before
we started to just pass the ELD between the drivers. This sort of
explains why we even have that silly hardware buffer with native HDMI.

This also fixes our state readout since we can now query the SDVO
encoder about the state of the "ELD valid" and "presence detect"
bits. As mentioned those don't actually control whether audio
gets sent over the HDMI cable, but it's the best we can do. And with
the state checker appeased we can re-enable HDMI audio for gen3.

Not-entirely-upstream-sha1-but-equivalent: bed2dd8421
("drm/ttm: Quick-test mmap offset in ttm_bo_mmap()")
Setting CONFIG_NOUVEAU_LEGACY_CTX_SUPPORT=n (added by commit: b30a43ac7132)
causes the build to fail with:
ERROR: "drm_legacy_mmap" [drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nouveau.ko] undefined!
This does not happend upstream as the offending code got removed in:
bed2dd8421 ("drm/ttm: Quick-test mmap offset in ttm_bo_mmap()")
Fix that by adding check for CONFIG_NOUVEAU_LEGACY_CTX_SUPPORT around
the drm_legacy_mmap() call.
Also, as Sven Joachim pointed out, we need to make the check in
CONFIG_NOUVEAU_LEGACY_CTX_SUPPORT=n case return -EINVAL as its done
for basically all other gpu drivers, especially in upstream kernels
drivers/gpu/drm/ttm/ttm_bo_vm.c as of the upstream commit bed2dd8421.
NOTE. This is a minimal stable-only fix for trees where b30a43ac7132 is
backported as the build error affects nouveau only.

There was a nouveau DDX that relied on legacy context ioctls to work,
but we fixed it years ago, give distros that have a modern DDX the
option to break the uAPI and close the mess of holes that legacy
context support is.

In the case of a normal sync update, the preparation of framebuffers (be
it calling drm_atomic_helper_prepare_planes() or doing setups with
drm_framebuffer_get()) are performed in the new_state and the respective
cleanups are performed in the old_state.
In the case of async updates, the preparation is also done in the
new_state but the cleanups are done in the new_state (because updates
are performed in place, i.e. in the current state).
The current code blocks async udpates when the fb is changed, turning
async updates into sync updates, slowing down cursor updates and
introducing regressions in igt tests with errors of type:
"CRITICAL: completed 97 cursor updated in a period of 30 flips, we
expect to complete approximately 15360 updates, with the threshold set
at 7680"
Fb changes in async updates were prevented to avoid the following scenario:
- Async update, oldfb = NULL, newfb = fb1, prepare fb1, cleanup fb1
- Async update, oldfb = fb1, newfb = fb2, prepare fb2, cleanup fb2
- Non-async commit, oldfb = fb2, newfb = fb1, prepare fb1, cleanup fb2 (wrong)
Where we have a single call to prepare fb2 but double cleanup call to fb2.
To solve the above problems, instead of blocking async fb changes, we
place the old framebuffer in the new_state object, so when the code
performs cleanups in the new_state it will cleanup the old_fb and we
will have the following scenario instead:
- Async update, oldfb = NULL, newfb = fb1, prepare fb1, no cleanup
- Async update, oldfb = fb1, newfb = fb2, prepare fb2, cleanup fb1
- Non-async commit, oldfb = fb2, newfb = fb1, prepare fb1, cleanup fb2
Where calls to prepare/cleanup are balanced.

Upstream does not have that problem, as commit bed2dd8421 ("drm/ttm:
Quick-test mmap offset in ttm_bo_mmap()") has removed the use of
drm_legacy_mmap from nouveau_ttm.c. Unfortunately that commit does not
apply in 5.1.9.
The ensuing discussion proposed a number of one-off patches, but no
solid agreement was made, so just revert the commit for now to get
people's systems building again.

The driver currently sets register 0xfb (Low Refresh Rate) based on the
value of mode->vrefresh. Firstly, this field is specified to be in Hz,
but the magic numbers used by the code are Hz * 1000. This essentially
leads to the low refresh rate always being set to 0x01, since the
vrefresh value will always be less than 24000. Fix the magic numbers to
be in Hz.
Secondly, according to the comment in drm_modes.h, the field is not
supposed to be used in a functional way anyway. Instead, use the helper
function drm_mode_vrefresh().

Where possible, we want the failsafe link configuration (one which won't
hang the OR during modeset because of not enough bandwidth for the mode)
to also be supported by the sink.
This prevents "link rate unsupported by sink" messages when link training

On many (all?) the Gemini Lake systems we work with, there is frequent
momentary graphical corruption at the top of the screen, and it seems
that disabling framebuffer compression can avoid this.
The ticket was reported 6 months ago and has already affected a
multitude of users, without any real progress being made. So, lets
disable framebuffer compression on GeminiLake until a solution is found.

As explained by Robin Murphy:

We had a more radical approach before in commit
7f3ef5dedb14 ("drm/rockchip: Allow driver to be shutdown on reboot/kexec")
but that resulted in new warnings and oopses on shutdown on rk3399
chromeos devices.
So second try is resurrecting Vicentes shutdown change which should
achieve the same result but in a less drastic way.

For a while, we've had the problem of i2c bus access not grabbing
a runtime PM ref when it's being used in userspace by i2c-dev, resulting
in nouveau spamming the kernel log with errors if anything attempts to
access the i2c bus while the GPU is in runtime suspend. An example:

Since the GPU is in runtime suspend, the MMIO region that the i2c bus is
on isn't accessible. On x86, the standard behavior for accessing an
unavailable MMIO region is to just return ~0.
Except, that turned out to be a lie. While computers with a clean
concious will return ~0 in this scenario, some machines will actually
completely hang a CPU on certian bad MMIO accesses. This was witnessed
with someone's Lenovo ThinkPad P50, where sensors-detect attempting to
access the i2c bus while the GPU was suspended would result in a CPU
hang:

Yikes! While I wanted to try to make it so that accessing an i2c bus on
nouveau would wake up the GPU as needed, airlied pointed out that pretty
much any usecase for userspace accessing an i2c bus on a GPU (mainly for
the DDC brightness control that some displays have) is going to only be
useful while there's at least one display enabled on the GPU anyway, and
the GPU never sleeps while there's displays running.
Since teaching the i2c bus to wake up the GPU on userspace accesses is a
good deal more difficult than it might seem, mostly due to the fact that
we have to use the i2c bus during runtime resume of the GPU, we instead
opt for the easiest solution: don't let userspace access i2c busses on
the GPU at all while it's in runtime suspend.

After an event is sent, we try to copy it into the user buffer of the
first waiter in drm_read() and if the user buffer doesn't have enough
room we put it back onto the list. However, we didn't wake up any
subsequent waiter, so that event may sit on the list until either a new
vblank event is sent or a new waiter appears. Rare, but in the worst
case may lead to a stuck process.

The call to of_get_child_by_name returns a node pointer with refcount
incremented thus it must be explicitly decremented after the last
usage.

'encoder' is dereferenced before it is null sanity checked, hence we
potentially have a null pointer dereference bug. Instead, initialise
drm_drv from encoder->dev->dev_private after we are sure 'encoder' is
not null.
