Therefore, let's just return that error code instead of forcing it to EPROBE_DEFER. The issue can be observed using modetest: modetest -s <connector_id>@<crtc_id>:1920x1080-60@RG24 modetest -s <connector_id>@<crtc_id>:1920x1080-60@BG24 Vendor 4.4 kernel apply an inverted rb swap for these formats on VOP full framework (IP version 3.x) compared to VOP little framework (2.x). Fix colors by applying different rb swap for VOP full framework (3.x) and VOP little framework (2.x) similar to vendor 4.4 kernel. 2023-07-27drm/rockchip: vop: Leave vblank enabled in self-refreshBrian Norris
commit 2bdba9d4a3baa758c2ca7f5b37b35c7b3391dc42 upstream. If we disable vblank when entering self-refresh, vblank APIs (like DRM_IOCTL_WAIT_VBLANK) no longer work. But user space is not aware when we enter self-refresh, so this appears to be an API violation -- that DRM_IOCTL_WAIT_VBLANK fails with EINVAL whenever the display is idle and enters self-refresh. The downstream driver used by many of these systems never used to disable vblank for PSR, and in fact, even upstream, we didn't do that until radically redesigning the state machine in commit 6c836d965bad ("drm/rockchip: Use the helpers for PSR"). Thus, it seems like a reasonable API fix to simply restore that behavior, and leave vblank enabled. Note that this appears to potentially unbalance the drm_crtc_vblank_{off,on}() calls in some cases, but: (a) drm_crtc_vblank_on() documents this as OK and (b) if I do the naive balancing, I find state machine issues such that we're not in sync properly; so it's easier to take advantage of (a). This issue was exposed by IGT's kms_vblank tests, and reported by KernelCI. The bug has been around a while (longer than KernelCI noticed), but was only exposed once self-refresh was bugfixed more recently, and so KernelCI could properly test it. Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1] (or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings (e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized, either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes. [ Upstream commit 2bfaa28000d2830d3209161a4541cce0660e1b84 ] struct drm_display_mode embeds a list head, so overwriting the full struct with another one will corrupt the list (if the destination mode is on a list). Use drm_mode_copy() instead which explicitly preserves the list head of the destination mode. Even if we know the destination mode is not on any list using drm_mode_copy() seems decent as it sets a good example. Bad examples of not using it might eventually get copied into code where preserving the list head actually matters. Obviously one case not covered here is when the mode itself is embedded in a larger structure and the whole structure is copied. Request synchronous probe, at least until this driver learns some appropriate locking for dual-DSI initialization. Since commit 43c2de1002d2 ("drm/rockchip: dsi: move all lane config except LCDC mux to bind()"), we perform most HW configuration in the bind() function. This configuration may be lost on suspend/resume, so we need to call it again. That may lead to errors like this after system suspend/resume: dw-mipi-dsi-rockchip ff968000.mipi: failed to write command FIFO panel-kingdisplay-kd097d04 ff960000.mipi.0: failed write init cmds: -110 Tested on Acer Chromebook Tab 10 (RK3399 Gru-Scarlet). Note that early mailing list versions of this driver borrowed Rockchip's downstream/BSP solution, to do HW configuration in mode_set() (which *is* called at the appropriate pre-enable() times), but that was discarded along the way. I've avoided that still, because mode_set() documentation doesn't suggest this kind of purpose as far as I can tell. 2022-01-27drm/rockchip: dsi: Hold pm-runtime across bind/unbindBrian Norris
commit 514db871922f103886ad4d221cf406b4fcc5e74a upstream. In commit 43c2de1002d2 ("drm/rockchip: dsi: move all lane config except LCDC mux to bind()"), we moved most HW configuration to bind(), but we didn't move the runtime PM management. Therefore, depending on initial boot state, runtime-PM workqueue delays, and other timing factors, we may disable our power domain in between the hardware configuration (bind()) and when we enable the display. This can cause us to lose hardware state and fail to configure our display. For example: dw-mipi-dsi-rockchip ff968000.mipi: failed to write command FIFO panel-innolux-p079zca ff960000.mipi.0: failed to write command 0 or: dw-mipi-dsi-rockchip ff968000.mipi: failed to write command FIFO panel-kingdisplay-kd097d04 ff960000.mipi.0: failed write init cmds: -110 We should match the runtime PM to the lifetime of the bind()/unbind() cycle. Tested on Acer Chrometab 10 (RK3399 Gru-Scarlet), with panel drivers built either as modules or built-in. Side notes: it seems one is more likely to see this problem when the panel driver is built into the kernel. I've also seen this problem bisect down to commits that simply changed Kconfig dependencies, because it changed the order in which driver init functions were compiled into the kernel, and therefore the ordering and timing of built-in device probe. 2021-07-19drm/rockchip: dsi: remove extra component_del() callThomas Hebb
commit b354498bbe65c917d521b3b56317ddc9ab217425 upstream. commit cf6d100dd238 ("drm/rockchip: dsi: add dual mipi support") added this devcnt field and call to component_del(). However, these both appear to be erroneous changes left over from an earlier version of the patch. In the version merged, nothing ever modifies devcnt, meaning component_del() runs unconditionally and in addition to the component_del() calls in dw_mipi_dsi_rockchip_host_detach(). The second call fails to delete anything and produces a warning in dmesg. If we look at the previous version of the patch[1], however, we see that it had logic to calculate devcnt and call component_add() in certain situations. This was removed in v6, and the fact that the deletion code was not appears to have been an oversight. 2021-07-14drm/rockchip: dsi: move all lane config except LCDC mux to bind()Thomas Hebb
[ Upstream commit 43c2de1002d2b70fb5941fa14e97a34e3dc214d4 ] When we first enable the DSI encoder, we currently program some per-chip configuration that we look up in rk3399_chip_data based on the device tree compatible we match. This data configures various parameters of the MIPI lanes, including on RK3399 whether DSI1 is slaved to DSI0 in a dual-mode configuration. It also selects which LCDC (i.e. VOP) to scan out from. This causes a problem in RK3399 dual-mode configurations, though: panel prepare() callbacks run before the encoder gets enabled and expect to be able to write commands to the DSI bus, but the bus isn't fully functional until the lane and master/slave configuration have been programmed. As a result, dual-mode panels (and possibly others too) fail to turn on when the rockchipdrm driver is initially loaded. Because the LCDC mux is the only thing we don't know until enable time (and is the only thing that can ever change), we can actually move most of the initialization to bind() and get it out of the way early. That's what this change does. (Rockchip's 4.4 BSP kernel does it in mode_set(), which also avoids the issue, but bind() seems like the more correct place to me.) Tested on a Google Scarlet board (Acer Chromebook Tab 10), which has a Kingdisplay KD097D04 dual-mode panel. Prior to this change, the panel's backlight would turn on but no image would appear when initially loading rockchipdrm. If I kept rockchipdrm loaded and reloaded the panel driver, it would come on. With this change, the panel successfully turns on during initial rockchipdrm load as expected. 2020-01-26drm/rockchip: Round up _before_ giving to the clock frameworkDouglas Anderson
[ Upstream commit 287422a95fe28e05c1952de0472e0dfdffa6caae ] I'm embarassed to say that even though I've touched vop_crtc_mode_fixup() twice and I swear I tested it, there's still a stupid glaring bug in it. Specifically, on veyron_minnie (with all the latest display timings) we want to be setting our pixel clock to 66,666,666.67 Hz and we tell userspace that's what we set, but we're actually choosing 66,000,000 Hz. This is confirmed by looking at the clock tree. The problem is that in drm_display_mode_from_videomode() we convert from Hz to kHz with: dmode->clock = vm->pixelclock / 1000; ...and drm_display_mode_from_videomode() is called from panel-simple when we have an "override_mode" like we do on veyron_minnie. See commit 123643e5c40a ("ARM: dts: rockchip: Specify rk3288-veyron-minnie's display timings"). ...so when the device tree specifies a clock of 66666667 for the panel then DRM translates that to 66666000. The clock framework will always pick a clock that is _lower_ than the one requested, so it will refuse to pick 66666667 and we'll end up at 66000000. While we could try to fix drm_display_mode_from_videomode() to round to the nearest kHz and it would fix our problem, it wouldn't help if the clock we actually needed was 60,000,001 Hz. We could alternatively have DRM always round up, but maybe this would break someone else who already baked in the assumption that DRM rounds down. Specifically note that clock drivers are not consistent about whether they round up or round down when you call clk_set_rate(). We know how Rockchip's clock driver works, but (for instance) you can see that on most Qualcomm clocks the default is clk_rcg2_ops which rounds up. Let's solve this by just adding 999 Hz before calling clk_round_rate(). This should be safe and work everywhere. As discussed in more detail in comments in the commit, Rockchip's PLLs are configured in a way that there shouldn't be another PLL setting that is only a few kHz off so we won't get mixed up. NOTE: if this is picked to stable, it's probably easiest to first pick commit 527e4ca3b6d1 ("drm/rockchip: Base adjustments of the mode based on prev adjustments") which shouldn't hurt in stable. 2019-09-19drm: Measure Self Refresh Entry/Exit times to avoid thrashingSean Paul
Currently the self refresh idle timer is a const set by the crtc. This is fine if the self refresh entry/exit times are well-known for all panels used on that crtc. However panels and workloads can vary quite a bit, and a timeout which works well for one doesn't work well for another. In the extreme, if the timeout is too short we could get in a situation where the self refresh exits are taking so long we queue up a self refresh entry before the exit commit is even finished. This patch changes the idle timeout to a moving average of the entry times + a moving average of exit times + the crtc constant. This patch was tested on rockchip, with a kevin CrOS panel the idle delay averages out to about ~235ms (35 entry + 100 exit + 100 const). On the same board, the bob panel idle delay lands around ~340ms (90 entry + 150 exit + 100 const). In commit fe64ba5c6323 ("drm/rockchip: Resume DP early") we moved resume to be early but left suspend at its normal time. This seems like it could be OK, but casues problems if a suspend gets interrupted partway through. The OS only balances matching suspend/resume levels. ...so if suspend was called then resume will be called. If suspend late was called then resume early will be called. ...but if suspend was called resume early might not get called. This leads to an unbalance in the clock enables / disables. Lets take the simple fix and just move suspend to be late to match. This makes the PM core take proper care in keeping things balanced. 2019-06-16drm/rockchip: Base adjustments of the mode based on prev adjustmentsDouglas Anderson
In vop_crtc_mode_fixup() we fixup the mode to show what we actually will be able to achieve. However we should base our adjustments on any previous adjustments that were made. As an example, the dw_hdmi driver may wish to make some small adjustments to clock rates in its atomic_check() function. If it does, it will update the adjusted_mode. We shouldn't throw away those adjustments. NOTE: the version of the dw_hdmi driver upstream doesn't _actually_ make such adjustments, but downstream in Chrome OS it does. It is plausible that one day we'll figure out how to cleanly make that happen in an upstream-friendly way, so we should prepare by using the right mode. When fixing up the clock in vop_crtc_mode_fixup() we're not doing it quite correctly. Specifically if we've got the true clock 266666667 Hz, we'll perform this calculation: 266666667 / 1000 => 266666 Later when we try to set the clock we'll do clk_set_rate(266666 * 1000). The common clock framework won't actually pick the proper clock in this case since it always wants clocks <= the specified one. Let's solve this by using DIV_ROUND_UP. On Rockchip rk3288-based Chromebooks when you do a suspend/resume cycle: 1. You lose the ability to detect an HDMI device being plugged in. 2. If you're using the i2c bus built in to dw_hdmi then it stops working. Let's call the core dw-hdmi's suspend/resume functions to restore things. NOTE: in downstream Chrome OS (based on kernel 3.14) we used the "late/early" versions of suspend/resume because we found that the VOP was sometimes resuming before dw_hdmi and then calling into us before we were fully resumed. For now I have gone back to the normal suspend/resume because I can't reproduce the problems.
