[ Upstream commit 0f5cc249ff73552d3bd864e62f85841dafaa107d ]
max_low_pfn variable is incorrectly adjusted if the kernel is built with
high memory support and the later is detected in a running system, so the
memory which actually can be directly mapped is getting into the highmem
zone. See the ZONE_NORMAL range on my MIPS32r5 system:
> Zone ranges:
> DMA [mem 0x0000000000000000-0x0000000000ffffff]
> Normal [mem 0x0000000001000000-0x0000000007ffffff]
> HighMem [mem 0x0000000008000000-0x000000020fffffff]
while the zones are supposed to look as follows:
> Zone ranges:
> DMA [mem 0x0000000000000000-0x0000000000ffffff]
> Normal [mem 0x0000000001000000-0x000000001fffffff]
> HighMem [mem 0x0000000020000000-0x000000020fffffff]
Even though the physical memory within the range [0x08000000;0x20000000]
belongs to MMIO on our system, we don't really want it to be considered as
high memory since on MIPS32 that range still can be directly mapped.
Note there might be other problems caused by the max_low_pfn variable
misconfiguration. For instance high_memory variable is initialize with
virtual address corresponding to the max_low_pfn PFN, and by design it
must define the upper bound on direct map memory, then end of the normal
zone. That in its turn potentially may cause problems in accessing the
memory by means of the /dev/mem and /dev/kmem devices.
Let's fix the discovered misconfiguration then. It turns out the commit
a94e4f24ec83 ("MIPS: init: Drop boot_mem_map") didn't introduce the
max_low_pfn adjustment quite correct. If the kernel is built with high
memory support and the system is equipped with high memory, the
max_low_pfn variable will need to be initialized with PFN of the most
upper directly reachable memory address so the zone normal would be
correctly setup. On MIPS that PFN corresponds to PFN_DOWN(HIGHMEM_START).
If the system is built with no high memory support and one is detected in
the running system, we'll just need to adjust the max_pfn variable to
discard the found high memory from the system and leave the max_low_pfn as
is, since the later will be less than PFN_DOWN(HIGHMEM_START) anyway by
design of the for_each_memblock() loop performed a bit early in the
bootmem_init() method.

PAGE_OFFSET is technically a virtual address so when checking the value of
initrd_start against it we should make sure that it has been sanitised from
the values passed by the bootloader. Without this change, even with a bootloader

When neither LANTIQ nor MIPS_MALTA is set, 'physical_memsize' is not
declared. This causes the build to fail with:
mips-linux-ld: arch/mips/kernel/vpe-mt.o: in function `vpe_run':
arch/mips/kernel/vpe-mt.c:(.text.vpe_run+0x280): undefined reference to `physical_memsize'
LANTIQ is not using 'physical_memsize' and MIPS_MALTA's use of it is
self-contained in mti-malta/malta-dtshim.c.
Use of physical_memsize in vpe-mt.c appears to be unused, so eliminate
this loader mode completely and require VPE programs to be compiled with
DFLT_STACK_SIZE and DFLT_HEAP_SIZE defined.

commit 0e25498f8cd43c1b5aa327f373dd094e9a006da7 upstream.
There are two big uses of do_exit. The first is it's design use to be
the guts of the exit(2) system call. The second use is to terminate
a task after something catastrophic has happened like a NULL pointer
in kernel code.
Add a function make_task_dead that is initialy exactly the same as
do_exit to cover the cases where do_exit is called to handle
catastrophic failure. In time this can probably be reduced to just a
light wrapper around do_task_dead. For now keep it exactly the same so
that there will be no behavioral differences introducing this new
concept.
Replace all of the uses of do_exit that use it for catastraphic
task cleanup with make_task_dead to make it clear what the code
is doing.
As part of this rename rewind_stack_do_exit
rewind_stack_and_make_dead.

When CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK and CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS is selected,
cpu_max_bits_warn() generates a runtime warning similar as below while
we show /proc/cpuinfo. Fix this by using nr_cpu_ids (the runtime limit)
instead of NR_CPUS to iterate CPUs.

commit f0a6c68f69981214cb7858738dd2bc81475111f7 upstream.
Fix the discrepancy between the two places we check for the CP0 counter
erratum in along with the incorrect comparison of the R4400 revision
number against 0x30 which matches none and consistently consider all
R4000 and R4400 processors affected, as documented in processor errata
publications[1][2][3], following the mapping between CP0 PRId register
values and processor models:
PRId | Processor Model
---------+--------------------
00000422 | R4000 Revision 2.2
00000430 | R4000 Revision 3.0
00000440 | R4400 Revision 1.0
00000450 | R4400 Revision 2.0
00000460 | R4400 Revision 3.0
No other revision of either processor has ever been spotted.
Contrary to what has been stated in commit ce202cbb9e0b ("[MIPS] Assume
R4000/R4400 newer than 3.0 don't have the mfc0 count bug") marking the
CP0 counter as buggy does not preclude it from being used as either a
clock event or a clock source device. It just cannot be used as both at
a time, because in that case clock event interrupts will be occasionally
lost, and the use as a clock event device takes precedence.
Compare against 0x4ff in `can_use_mips_counter' so that a single machine
instruction is produced.

[ Upstream commit d17b66417308996e7e64b270a3c7f3c1fbd4cfc8 ]
With KCFLAGS="-O3", I was able to trigger a fortify-source
memcpy() overflow panic on set_vi_srs_handler().
Although O3 level is not supported in the mainline, under some
conditions that may've happened with any optimization settings,
it's just a matter of inlining luck. The panic itself is correct,
more precisely, 50/50 false-positive and not at the same time.
From the one side, no real overflow happens. Exception handler
defined in asm just gets copied to some reserved places in the
memory.
But the reason behind is that C code refers to that exception
handler declares it as `char`, i.e. something of 1 byte length.
It's obvious that the asm function itself is way more than 1 byte,
so fortify logics thought we are going to past the symbol declared.
The standard way to refer to asm symbols from C code which is not
supposed to be called from C is to declare them as
`extern const u8[]`. This is fully correct from any point of view,
as any code itself is just a bunch of bytes (including 0 as it is
for syms like _stext/_etext/etc.), and the exact size is not known
at the moment of compilation.
Adjust the type of the except_vec_vi_*() and related variables.
Make set_handler() take `const` as a second argument to avoid
cast-away warnings and give a little more room for optimization.

Basic debug printks right before the mentioned line say:
[ 0.048170] CPU: 1, smt_mask:
So smt_mask, which is sibling mask obviously, is empty when entering
the function.
This is critical, as sched_core_cpu_starting() calculates
core-scheduling parameters only once per CPU start, and it's crucial
to have all the parameters filled in at that moment (at least it
uses cpu_smt_mask() which in fact is `&cpu_sibling_map[cpu]` on
MIPS).
A bit of debugging led me to that set_cpu_sibling_map() performing
the actual map calculation, was being invocated after
notify_cpu_start(), and exactly the latter function starts CPU HP
callback round (sched_core_cpu_starting() is basically a CPU HP

While the flow is same on ARM64 (maps after the notifier, although
before calling set_cpu_online()), x86 started calculating sibling
maps earlier than starting the CPU HP callbacks in Linux 4.14 (see
[0] for the reference). Neither me nor my brief tests couldn't find
any potential caveats in calculating the maps right after performing
delay calibration, but the WARN splat is now gone.
The very same debug prints now yield exactly what I expected from
them:

[ Upstream commit 18b8f5b6fc53d097cadb94a93d8d6566ba88e389 ]
mips_cm_error_report() extracts the cause and other cause from the error
register using shifts. This works fine for the former, as it is stored
in the top bits, and the shift will thus remove all non-related bits.
However, the latter is stored in the bottom bits, hence thus needs masking
to get rid of non-related bits. Without such masking, using it as an
index into the cm2_causes[] array will lead to an out-of-bounds access,
probably causing a crash.
Fix this by using FIELD_GET() instead. Bite the bullet and convert all
MIPS CM handling to the bitfield API, to improve readability and safety.

commit 95bf9d646c3c3f95cb0be7e703b371db8da5be68 upstream.
When an instruction to save or restore a register from the stack fails
in _save_fp_context or _restore_fp_context return with -EFAULT. This
change was made to r2300_fpu.S[1] but it looks like it got lost with
the introduction of EX2[2]. This is also what the other implementation
of _save_fp_context and _restore_fp_context in r4k_fpu.S does, and
what is needed for the callers to be able to handle the error.
Furthermore calling do_exit(SIGSEGV) from bad_stack is wrong because
it does not terminate the entire process it just terminates a single
thread.
As the changed code was the only caller of arch/mips/kernel/syscall.c:bad_stack
remove the problematic and now unused helper function.

DEFINE_SMP_CALL_CACHE_FUNCTION() was usefel before the CPU hotplug rework
to ensure that the cache related functions are called on the upcoming CPU
because the notifier itself could run on any online CPU.
The hotplug state machine guarantees that the callbacks are invoked on the
upcoming CPU. So there is no need to have this SMP function call
obfuscation. That indirection was missed when the hotplug notifiers were
converted.
This also solves the problem of ARM64 init_cache_level() invoking ACPI
functions which take a semaphore in that context. That's invalid as SMP
function calls run with interrupts disabled. Running it just from the
callback in context of the CPU hotplug thread solves this.

Commit 866b6a89c6d1 ("MIPS: Add DWARF unwinding to assembly") added
-fno-asynchronous-unwind-tables to KBUILD_CFLAGS to prevent compiler
from emitting .eh_frame symbols.
However, as MIPS heavily uses CFI, that's not enough. Use the
approach taken for x86 (as it also uses CFI) and explicitly put CFI
symbols into the .debug_frame section (except for VDSO).
This allows us to drop .eh_frame from DISCARDS as it's no longer
being generated.

commit 69e976831cd53f9ba304fd20305b2025ecc78eab upstream.
LLVM-built Linux triggered a boot hangup with KASLR enabled.
arch/mips/kernel/relocate.c:get_random_boot() uses linux_banner,
which is a string constant, as a random seed, but accesses it
as an array of unsigned long (in rotate_xor()).
When the address of linux_banner is not aligned to sizeof(long),
such access emits unaligned access exception and hangs the kernel.
Use PTR_ALIGN() to align input address to sizeof(long) and also
align down the input length to prevent possible access-beyond-end.

If check_kernel_sections_mem() rounds the PFNs up, first memblock_alloc()
inside early_init_dt_alloc_memory_arch() <= device_tree_init() returns
memory block overlapping with the above octeon_bootinfo structure, which

commit fcec538ef8cca0ad0b84432235dccd9059c8e6f8 upstream.
This resolves the hazard between the mtc0 in the change_c0_status() and
the mfc0 in configure_exception_vector(). Without resolving this hazard
configure_exception_vector() could read an old value and would restore
this old value again. This would revert the changes change_c0_status()
did. I checked this by printing out the read_c0_status() at the end of
per_cpu_trap_init() and the ST0_MX is not set without this patch.
The hazard is documented in the MIPS Architecture Reference Manual Vol.
III: MIPS32/microMIPS32 Privileged Resource Architecture (MD00088), rev
6.03 table 8.1 which includes:
Producer | Consumer | Hazard
----------|----------|----------------------------
mtc0 | mfc0 | any coprocessor 0 register
I saw this hazard on an Atheros AR9344 rev 2 SoC with a MIPS 74Kc CPU.
There the change_c0_status() function would activate the DSPen by
setting ST0_MX in the c0_status register. This was reverted and then the
system got a DSP exception when the DSP registers were saved in
save_dsp() in the first process switch. The crash looks like this:
[ 0.089999] Mount-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order: 0, 4096 bytes, linear)
[ 0.097796] Mountpoint-cache hash table entries: 1024 (order: 0, 4096 bytes, linear)
[ 0.107070] Kernel panic - not syncing: Unexpected DSP exception
[ 0.113470] Rebooting in 1 seconds..
We saw this problem in OpenWrt only on the MIPS 74Kc based Atheros SoCs,
not on the 24Kc based SoCs. We only saw it with kernel 5.4 not with
kernel 4.19, in addition we had to use GCC 8.4 or 9.X, with GCC 8.3 it
did not happen.
In the kernel I bisected this problem to commit 9012d011660e ("compiler:
allow all arches to enable CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING"), but when this was
reverted it also happened after commit 172dcd935c34b ("MIPS: Always
allocate exception vector for MIPSr2+").
Commit 0b24cae4d535 ("MIPS: Add missing EHB in mtc0 -> mfc0 sequence.")
does similar changes to a different file. I am not sure if there are
more places affected by this problem.

Loops-per-jiffies is a special number which represents a number of
noop-loop cycles per CPU-scheduler quantum - jiffies. As you
understand aside from CPU-specific implementation it depends on
the CPU frequency. So when a platform has the CPU frequency fixed,
we have no problem and the current udelay interface will work
just fine. But as soon as CPU-freq driver is enabled and the cores
frequency changes, we'll end up with distorted udelay's. In order
to fix this we have to accordinly adjust the per-CPU udelay_val
(the same as the global loops_per_jiffy) number. This can be done
in the CPU-freq transition event handler. We subscribe to that event
in the MIPS arch time-inititalization method.

if (!octeon_swiotlb)
panic("%s: Failed to allocate %zu bytes align=%lx\n",
__func__, swiotlbsize, PAGE_SIZE);
...
}
Because IO_TLB_DEFAULT_SIZE is 64M, if the rest size of low memory is less
than 64M when call plat_swiotlb_setup(), we can easily reproduce the panic
case.
In order to reduce the possibility of kernel panic when failed to get IO
TLB memory under CONFIG_SWIOTLB, it is better to allocate low memory as
small as possible before plat_swiotlb_setup(), so make sparse_init() using
top-down allocation.

Pointer on the memory allocated by 'alloc_progmem()' is stored in

'release_progmem()' is only a call to 'kfree()'.
With the current code, there is both a double free and a memory leak.
Fix it by passing the correct pointer to 'release_progmem()'.

On some SGI machines (IP28 and IP30) a small region of memory is mirrored
to pyhsical address 0 for exception vectors while rest of the memory
is reachable at a higher physical address. ARC PROM marks this
region as reserved, but with commit a94e4f24ec83 ("MIPS: init: Drop
boot_mem_map") this chunk is used, when searching for start of ram,
which breaks at least IP28 and IP30 machines. To fix this
add_region_memory() checks for start address < PHYS_OFFSET and ignores
these chunks.

Wire up the new clone3 syscall for MIPS, using save_static_function() to

Commit ac7c3e4ff401 ("compiler: enable CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING
forcibly") allows compiler to uninline functions marked as 'inline'.
Leading to section mismatch in this case.
Since we're using const variables to pass assembly flags, 'inline's
can't be dropped. So we simply mark them as __always_inline.

Pull MIPS updates from Paul Burton:
"Main MIPS changes:
- boot_mem_map is removed, providing a nice cleanup made possible by
the recent removal of bootmem.
- Some fixes to atomics, in general providing compiler barriers for
smp_mb__{before,after}_atomic plus fixes specific to Loongson CPUs
or MIPS32 systems using cmpxchg64().
- Conversion to the new generic VDSO infrastructure courtesy of
Vincenzo Frascino.
- Removal of undefined behavior in set_io_port_base(), fixing the
behavior of some MIPS kernel configurations when built with recent
clang versions.
- Initial MIPS32 huge page support, functional on at least Ingenic
SoCs.
- pte_special() is now supported for some configurations, allowing
among other things generic fast GUP to be used.
- Miscellaneous fixes & cleanups.
And platform specific changes:
- Major improvements to Ingenic SoC support from Paul Cercueil,
mostly enabled by the inclusion of the new TCU (timer-counter unit)
drivers he's spent a very patient year or so working on. Plus some
fixes for X1000 SoCs from Zhou Yanjie.
- Netgear R6200 v1 systems are now supported by the bcm47xx platform.
- DT updates for BMIPS, Lantiq & Microsemi Ocelot systems"

The comment describing the loongson_llsc_mb() reorder case doesn't
make any sense what so ever. Instruction re-ordering is not an SMP
artifact, but rather a CPU local phenomenon. Clarify the comment by
explaining that these issue cause a coherence fail.
For the branch speculation case; if futex_atomic_cmpxchg_inatomic()
needs one at the bne branch target, then surely the normal
__cmpxch_asm() implementation does too. We cannot rely on the
barriers from cmpxchg() because cmpxchg_local() is implemented with
the same macro, and branch prediction and speculation are, too, CPU
local.

The code in question is modifying a variable declared const through
pointer manipulation. Such code is explicitly undefined behavior, and
is the lone issue preventing malta_defconfig from booting when built
with Clang:
If an attempt is made to modify an object defined with a const-qualified
type through use of an lvalue with non-const-qualified type, the
behavior is undefined.
LLVM is removing such assignments. A simple fix is to not declare
variables const that you plan on modifying. Limiting the scope would be
a better method of preventing unwanted writes to such a variable.
Further, the code in question mentions "compiler bugs" without any links
to bug reports, so it is difficult to know if the issue is resolved in
GCC. The patch was authored in 2006, which would have been GCC 4.0.3 or
4.1.1. The minimal supported version of GCC in the Linux kernel is
currently 4.6.
For what its worth, there was UB before the commit in question, it just
added a barrier and got lucky IRT codegen. I don't think there's any
actual compiler bugs related, just runtime bugs due to UB.
