2021-02-10x86/build: Disable CET instrumentation in the kernelJosh Poimboeuf
commit 20bf2b378729c4a0366a53e2018a0b70ace94bcd upstream. With retpolines disabled, some configurations of GCC, and specifically the GCC versions 9 and 10 in Ubuntu will add Intel CET instrumentation to the kernel by default. That breaks certain tracing scenarios by adding a superfluous ENDBR64 instruction before the fentry call, for functions which can be called indirectly. CET instrumentation isn't currently necessary in the kernel, as CET is only supported in user space. Disable it unconditionally and move it into the x86's Makefile as CET/CFI... enablement should be a per-arch decision anyway. 2020-12-16Kbuild: do not emit debug info for assembly with LLVM_IAS=1Nick Desaulniers
commit b8a9092330da2030496ff357272f342eb970d51b upstream. Clang's integrated assembler produces the warning for assembly files: warning: DWARF2 only supports one section per compilation unit If -Wa,-gdwarf-* is unspecified, then debug info is not emitted for assembly sources (it is still emitted for C sources). This will be re-enabled for newer DWARF versions in a follow up patch. Enables defconfig+CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO to build cleanly with LLVM=1 LLVM_IAS=1 for x86_64 and arm64. 2020-09-03kbuild: fix broken builds because of GZIP,BZIP2,LZOP variablesDenis Efremov
commit e4a42c82e943b97ce124539fcd7a47445b43fa0d upstream. Redefine GZIP, BZIP2, LZOP variables as KGZIP, KBZIP2, KLZOP resp. GZIP, BZIP2, LZOP env variables are reserved by the tools. The original attempt to redefine them internally doesn't work in makefiles/scripts intercall scenarios, e.g., "make GZIP=gzip bindeb-pkg" and results in broken builds. There can be other broken build commands because of this, so the universal solution is to use non-reserved env variables for the compression tools. 2020-09-03kbuild: add variables for compression toolsDenis Efremov
commit 8dfb61dcbaceb19a5ded5e9c9dcf8d05acc32294 upstream. Allow user to use alternative implementations of compression tools, such as pigz, pbzip2, pxz. For example, multi-threaded tools to speed up the build: $ make GZIP=pigz BZIP2=pbzip2 Variables _GZIP, _BZIP2, _LZOP are used internally because original env vars are reserved by the tools. The use of GZIP in gzip tool is obsolete since 2015. However, alternative implementations (e.g., pigz) still rely on it. BZIP2, BZIP, LZOP vars are not obsolescent. The credit goes to @grsecurity. As a sidenote, for multi-threaded lzma, xz compression one can use: $ export XZ_OPT="--threads=0" Signed-off-by: Denis Efremov <efremov@linux.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <masahiroy@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Matthias Maennich <maennich@google.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
