2023-08-16powerpc/xics: Remove unnecessary endian conversionGautam Menghani
Remove an unnecessary piece of code that does an endianness conversion but does not use the result. The following warning was reported by Clang's static analyzer: arch/powerpc/sysdev/xics/ics-opal.c:114:2: warning: Value stored to 'server' is never read [deadcode.DeadStores] server = be16_to_cpu(oserver); 'server' was used as a parameter to opal_get_xive() in commit 5c7c1e9444d8 ("powerpc/powernv: Add OPAL ICS backend") when it was introduced. 'server' was also used in an error message for the call to opal_get_xive(). 'server' was always later set by a call to ics_opal_mangle_server() before being used. Commit bf8e0f891a32 ("powerpc/powernv: Fix endian issues in OPAL ICS backend") used a new variable 'oserver' as the parameter to opal_get_xive() instead of 'server' for endian correctness. It also removed 'server' from the error message for the call to opal_get_xive(). Fix the warning by removing the server variable assignment. 2023-02-13powerpc/rtas: arch-wide function token lookup conversionsNathan Lynch
With the tokens for all implemented RTAS functions now available via rtas_function_token(), which is optimal and safe for arbitrary contexts, there is no need to use rtas_token() or cache its result. Most conversions are trivial, but a few are worth describing in more detail: * Error injection token comparisons for lockdown purposes are consolidated into a simple predicate: token_is_restricted_errinjct(). * A couple of special cases in block_rtas_call() do not use rtas_token() but perform string comparisons against names in the function table. These are converted to compare against token values instead, which is logically equivalent but less expensive. * The lookup for the ibm,os-term token can be deferred until needed, instead of caching it at boot to avoid device tree traversal during panic. * Since rtas_function_token() accesses a read-only data structure without taking any locks, xmon's lookup of set-indicator can be performed as needed instead of cached at startup. At the time this was submitted by Leonardo, I confirmed -- or thought I had confirmed -- with PowerVM partition firmware development that the following RTAS functions: - ibm,get-xive - ibm,int-off - ibm,int-on - ibm,set-xive were safe to call on multiple CPUs simultaneously, not only with respect to themselves as indicated by PAPR, but with arbitrary other RTAS calls: https://lore.kernel.org/linuxppc-dev/875zcy2v8o.fsf@linux.ibm.com/ Recent discussion with firmware development makes it clear that this is not true, and that the code in commit b664db8e3f97 ("powerpc/rtas: Implement reentrant rtas call") is unsafe, likely explaining several strange bugs we've seen in internal testing involving DLPAR and LPM. These scenarios use ibm,configure-connector, whose internal state can be corrupted by the concurrent use of the "reentrant" functions, leading to symptoms like endless busy statuses from RTAS. This moves the IRQ initialization done under the different ICS backends in the common part of XICS. The 'map' handler becomes a simple 'check' on the HW IRQ at the FW level. As we don't need an ICS anymore in xics_migrate_irqs_away(), the XICS domain does not set a chip data for the IRQ. We always had only one ICS per machine. Simplify the XICS driver by removing the ICS list. The ICS stored in the chip data of the XICS domain becomes useless and we don't need it anymore to migrate away IRQs from a CPU. This will be removed in a subsequent patch. 2021-06-10powerpc: Convert irq_domain_add_legacy_isa use to irq_domain_add_legacyMarc Zyngier
irq_domain_add_legacy_isa is a pain. It only exists for the benefit of two PPC-specific drivers, and creates an ugly dependency between asm/irq.h and linux/irqdomain.h Instead, let's convert these two drivers to irq_domain_add_legacy(), stop using NUM_ISA_INTERRUPTS by directly setting NR_IRQS_LEGACY. The dependency cannot be broken yet as there is a lot of PPC-related code that depends on it, but that's the first step towards it. A followup patch will remove irq_domain_add_legacy_isa. 2020-06-02powerpc/rtas: Implement reentrant rtas callLeonardo Bras
Implement rtas_call_reentrant() for reentrant rtas-calls: "ibm,int-on", "ibm,int-off",ibm,get-xive" and "ibm,set-xive". On LoPAPR Version 1.1 (March 24, 2016), from 7.3.10.1 to 7.3.10.4, items 2 and 3 say: 2 - For the PowerPC External Interrupt option: The * call must be reentrant to the number of processors on the platform. 3 - For the PowerPC External Interrupt option: The * argument call buffer for each simultaneous call must be physically unique. So, these rtas-calls can be called in a lockless way, if using a different buffer for each cpu doing such rtas call. For this, it was suggested to add the buffer (struct rtas_args) in the PACA struct, so each cpu can have it's own buffer. The PACA struct received a pointer to rtas buffer, which is allocated in the memory range available to rtas 32-bit. Reentrant rtas calls are useful to avoid deadlocks in crashing, where rtas-calls are needed, but some other thread crashed holding the rtas.lock. To handle both cases, this patch splits kvmppc_set_host_ipi() into separate set/clear functions, where we execute smp_mb() prior to setting host_ipi flag, and after clearing host_ipi flag. These functions pair with each other to synchronize the sender and receiver sides. With that change in place the above workload ran for 20 hours without triggering any lock-ups. So move the -Werror addition to the top-level of the arch, this saves us from repeating it in every Makefile and means we won't forget to add it to any new sub-dirs. Change the paca array into an array of pointers to pacas. Allocate pacas individually. This allows flexibility in where the PACAs are allocated. Future work will allocate them node-local. Platforms that don't have address limits on PACAs would be able to defer PACA allocations until later in boot rather than allocate all possible ones up-front then freeing unused. This is slightly more overhead (one additional indirection) for cross CPU paca references, but those aren't too common. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Recently we merged the native xive support for Power9, and then separately some reworks for doorbell IPI support. In isolation both series were OK, but the merged result had a bug in one case. On P9 DD1 we use pnv_p9_dd1_cause_ipi() which tries to use doorbells, and then falls back to the interrupt controller. However the fallback is implemented by calling icp_ops->cause_ipi. But now that xive support is merged we might be using xive, in which case icp_ops is not initialised, it's a xics specific structure. Change the doorbell callers to know about their msgsnd addressing, rather than have them set a per-cpu target data tag at boot that gets sent to the cause_ipi functions. The data is only used for doorbell IPI functions, no other IPI types, so it makes sense to keep that detail local to doorbell. Have the platform code understand doorbell IPIs, rather than the interrupt controller code understand them. Platform code can look at capabilities it has available and decide which to use. I have purposefully removed the "out/in" variants in favor of only including __raw variants. Any code using these is already pretty much hand tuned to operate in a very specific environment. I've fixed up the 2 users (only one of them actually needed a barrier in the first place). 2017-03-06powerpc/xics: Work around limitations of OPAL XICS priority handlingBalbir Singh
The CPPR (Current Processor Priority Register) of a XICS interrupt presentation controller contains a value N, such that only interrupts with a priority "more favoured" than N will be received by the CPU, where "more favoured" means "less than". So if the CPPR has the value 5 then only interrupts with a priority of 0-4 inclusive will be received. In theory the CPPR can support a value of 0 to 255 inclusive. In practice Linux only uses values of 0, 4, 5 and 0xff. Setting the CPPR to 0 rejects all interrupts, setting it to 0xff allows all interrupts. The values 4 and 5 are used to differentiate IPIs from external interrupts. Setting the CPPR to 5 allows IPIs to be received but not external interrupts. The CPPR emulation in the OPAL XICS implementation only directly supports priorities 0 and 0xff. All other priorities are considered equivalent, and mapped to a single priority value internally. This means when using icp-opal we can not allow IPIs but not externals. This breaks Linux's use of priority values when a CPU is hot unplugged. After migrating IRQs away from the CPU that is being offlined, we set the priority to 5, meaning we still want the offline CPU to receive IPIs. But the effect of the OPAL XICS emulation's use of a single priority value is that all interrupts are rejected by the CPU. With the CPU offline, and not receiving IPIs, we may not be able to wake it up to bring it back online. The first part of the fix is in icp_opal_set_cpu_priority(). CPPR values of 0 to 4 inclusive will correctly cause all interrupts to be rejected, so we pass those CPPR values through to OPAL. However if we are called with a CPPR of 5 or greater, the caller is expecting to be able to allow IPIs but not external interrupts. We know this doesn't work, so instead of rejecting all interrupts we choose the opposite which is to allow all interrupts. This is still not correct behaviour, but we know for the only existing caller (xics_migrate_irqs_away()), that it is the better option. The other part of the fix is in xics_migrate_irqs_away(). Instead of setting priority (CPPR) to 0, and then back to 5 before migrating IRQs, we migrate the IRQs before setting the priority back to 5. This should have no effect on an ICP backend with a working set_priority(), and on icp-opal it means we will keep all interrupts blocked until after we've finished doing the IRQ migration. Additionally we wait for 5ms after doing the migration to make sure there are no IRQs in flight. The IPIs come in as HVI not EE, so we need to test the appropriate SRR1 bits. The encoding is such that it won't have false positives on P7 and P8 so we can just test it like that. We also need to handle the icp-opal variant of the flush. 2017-01-17powerpc/icp-opal: Fix missing KVM case and harden replayBenjamin Herrenschmidt
The icp-opal call is missing the code from icp-native to recover interrupts snatched by KVM. Without that, when running KVM, we can get into a situation where an interrupt is lost and the CPU stuck with an elevated CPPR. Also harden replay by always checking the return from opal_int_eoi(). 2016-09-20powerpc: Remove all usages of NO_IRQMichael Ellerman
NO_IRQ has been == 0 on powerpc for just over ten years (since commit 0ebfff1491ef ("[POWERPC] Add new interrupt mapping core and change platforms to use it")). It's also 0 on most other arches. Although it's fairly harmless, every now and then it causes confusion when a driver is built on powerpc and another arch which doesn't define NO_IRQ. There's at least 6 definitions of NO_IRQ in drivers/, at least some of which are to work around that problem. So we'd like to remove it. This is fairly trivial in the arch code, we just convert: if (irq == NO_IRQ) to if (!irq) if (irq != NO_IRQ) to if (irq) irq = NO_IRQ; to irq = 0; return NO_IRQ; to return 0; And a few other odd cases as well. At least for now we keep the #define NO_IRQ, because there is driver code that uses NO_IRQ and the fixes to remove those will go via other trees. 2016-08-09powerpc/xics: Properly set Edge/Level type and enable resendBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This sets the type of the interrupt appropriately. We set it as follow: - If not mapped from the device-tree, we use edge. This is the case of the virtual interrupts and PCI MSIs for example. - If mapped from the device-tree and #interrupt-cells is 2 (PAPR compliant), we use the second cell to set the appropriate type - If mapped from the device-tree and #interrupt-cells is 1 (current OPAL on P8 does that), we assume level sensitive since those are typically going to be the PSI LSIs which are level sensitive. Additionally, we mark the interrupts requested via the opal_interrupts property all level. This is a bit fishy but the best we can do until we fix OPAL to properly expose them with a complete descriptor. It is also correct for the current HW anyway as OPAL interrupts are currently PCI error and PSI interrupts which are level. Finally now that edge interrupts are properly identified, we can enable CONFIG_HARDIRQS_SW_RESEND which will make the core re-send them if they occur while masked, which some drivers rely upon. 2016-02-29powerpc/xics: Add icp_native_cause_ipi_rmSuresh Warrier
Function to cause an IPI by directly updating the MFFR register in the XICS. The function is meant for real-mode callers since they cannot use the smp_ops->cause_ipi function which uses an ioremapped address. Normal usage is for the the KVM real mode code to set the IPI message using smp_muxed_ipi_message_pass and then invoke icp_native_cause_ipi_rm to cause the actual IPI. The function requires kvm_hstate.xics_phys to have been initialized with the physical address of XICS. 2015-07-30genirq/irqdomain: Allow irq domain aliasingMarc Zyngier
It is not uncommon (at least with the ARM stuff) to have a piece of hardware that implements different flavours of "interrupts". A typical example of this is the GICv3 ITS, which implements standard PCI/MSI support, but also some form of "generic MSI". So far, the PCI/MSI domain is registered using the ITS device_node, so that irq_find_host can return it. On the contrary, the raw MSI domain is not registered with an device_node, making it impossible to be looked up by another subsystem (obviously, using the same device_node twice would only result in confusion, as it is not defined which one irq_find_host would return). A solution to this is to "type" domains that may be aliasing, and to be able to lookup an device_node that matches a given type. For this, we introduce irq_find_matching_host() as a superset of irq_find_host: struct irq_domain *irq_find_matching_host(struct device_node *node, enum irq_domain_bus_token bus_token); where bus_token is the "type" we want to match the domain against (so far, only DOMAIN_BUS_ANY is defined). This result in some moderately invasive changes on the PPC side (which is the only user of the .match method). This has otherwise no functionnal change.
