2020-04-20drm/i915: fix Sphinx build duplicate label warningJani Nikula
Fix the warning caused by enabling the autosectionlabel extension in the kernel Sphinx build: Documentation/gpu/i915.rst:610: WARNING: duplicate label gpu/i915:layout, other instance in Documentation/gpu/i915.rst The autosectionlabel extension adds labels to each section title for cross-referencing, but forbids identical section titles in a document. With kernel-doc, this includes sections titles in the included kernel-doc comments. In the warning message, Sphinx is unable to reference the labels in their true locations in the kernel-doc comments in source. In this case, there's "Layout" sections in both gt/intel_workarounds.c and i915_reg.h. Rename the section in the latter to "File Layout". 2020-03-20drm/i915/perf: Invalidate OA TLB on when closing perf streamUmesh Nerlige Ramappa
On running several back to back perf capture sessions involving closing and opening the perf stream, invalid OA reports are seen in the beginning of the OA buffer in some sessions. Fix this by invalidating OA TLB when the perf stream is closed or disabled on gen12. The bspec description for this workaround tells us to program 0xFFFF_FFFF into both FBC_RT_BASE_ADDR_REGISTER_* registers, but we've previously found that this leads to failures in CI. Our suspicion is that the failures are caused by this valid turning on the "address valid bit" even though we're intentionally supplying an invalid address. Experimentation has shown that setting all bits _except_ for the RT_VALID bit seems to avoid these failures. v2: - Mask off the RT_VALID bit. Experimentation with CI trybot indicates that this is necessary to avoid reset failures on BCS. v3: - Program RT_BASE before RT_BASE_UPPER so that the valid bit is turned off by the first write. Looks like the pipe rounding mode bit has moved from PIPE_CHICKEN to PIPE_MISC on tgl. Frob the new location. Bspec does still document the old bits as well, so I left the code for them as is until we get clarification from the hw folks on whether the old bits still do something useful. Now that we have offline error capture and can reset an engine from inside an atomic context while also preserving the GPU state for post-mortem analysis, it is time to handle error interrupts thrown by the command parser. This provides a much, much faster mechanism for us to detect known problems than using heartbeats/hangchecks, and also provides a mechanism for when those are disabled. However, it is limited to problems the HW can detect in the CS and so not a complete solution for detecting lockups. Gen-12 display decompression operates on Y-tiled compressed main surface. The CCS is linear and has 4 bits of metadata for each main surface cache line pair, a size ratio of 1:256. Gen-12 display decompression is incompatible with buffers compressed by earlier GPUs, so make use of a new modifier to identify gen-12 compression. Another notable change is that render decompression is supported on all planes except cursor and on all pipes. The TGL workaround database no longer shows Wa #1178 (or anything similar under different workaround names/numbers) so we should be able to drop it. In fact Swati just discovered that applying this workaround is the root cause of some power well enable failures we've been seeing in CI (gitlab issue 498). Once we stop applying this WA, TGL no longer utilizes any of the special handling provided by icl_combo_phy_aux_power_well_ops so we can just drop back to using the standard hsw-style power well ops instead. v3: Drop now-unused _TGL_AUX_ANAOVRD1_C definition too. As the current usage is restricted to first DSB instance per pipe, so existing code could not catch the issue to calculate the mmio offset of different DSB instance per pipe. Gen12 can improve bandwidth efficiency by pairing up memory requests with similar addresses. We need to program the BW_BUDDY1 and BW_BUDDY2 registers according to the memory configuration during display initialization to take advantage of this capability. The magic numbers we program here feel like something that could definitely change on future platforms, so let's use a table-based programming scheme to make this easy to extend in the future. v2: - Add separate table for Wa_1409767108. 2019-11-15drm/i915: Fix frame start delay programmingVille Syrjälä
Currently we're blindly poking at the frame start delay bits in PIPECONF when trying to sanitize the hardware state. Those bits decided to move elsewhere on HSW, so on many platforms we're not doing anything at all here. Also we're forgetting about the PCH transcoder entirely. Add all the bit definitions for the various homes these bits have had throughout the years, and reset them all to zero. However I'm not entirely sure this is a safe thing to do. If not I guess we'd want full readout+statecheck for this stuff. For now let's stick to the current logic and hope for the best. 2019-11-05drm/i915: Lower RM timeout to avoid DSI hard hangsUma Shankar
In BXT/APL, device 2 MMIO reads from MIPI controller requires its PLL to be turned ON. When MIPI PLL is turned off (MIPI Display is not active or connected), and someone (host or GT engine) tries to read MIPI registers, it causes hard hang. This is a hardware restriction or limitation. Driver by itself doesn't read MIPI registers when MIPI display is off. But any userspace application can submit unprivileged batch buffer for execution. In that batch buffer there can be mmio reads. And these reads are allowed even for unprivileged applications. If these register reads are for MIPI DSI controller and MIPI display is not active during that time, then the MMIO read operation causes system hard hang and only way to recover is hard reboot. A genuine process/application won't submit batch buffer like this and doesn't cause any issue. But on a compromised system, a malign userspace process/app can generate such batch buffer and can trigger system hard hang (denial of service attack). The fix is to lower the internal MMIO timeout value to an optimum value of 950us as recommended by hardware team. If the timeout is beyond 1ms (which will hit for any value we choose if MMIO READ on a DSI specific register is performed without PLL ON), it causes the system hang. But if the timeout value is lower than it will be below the threshold (even if timeout happens) and system will not get into a hung state. This will avoid a system hang without losing any programming or GT interrupts, taking the worst case of lowest CDCLK frequency and early DC5 abort into account. For gen9 we enable cmdparsing on the BCS ring, specifically to catch inadvertent accesses to sensitive registers Unlike gen7/hsw, we use the parser only to block certain registers. We can rely on h/w to block restricted commands, so the command tables only provide enough info to allow the parser to delineate each command, and identify commands that access registers. Note: This patch deliberately ignores checkpatch issues in favour of matching the style of the surrounding code.
